Why do you think? Because many people don't want to be the only (black, Jewish, Asian, pick your minority) around. Because they want their children to not feel like freaks.

Really?
Are friendships with outsiders discouraged?

Are you really that dense to not understand the difference between being the only representative of your minority group and being friends with people who are not a member of your minority group?

Schools are so diverse now, it really is no big deal
Plenty Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Irish, Indians, immigrants, esol kids
Nothing special to be of a different religion. This is not the '80s or '90s. It is the norm to be somewhat different. Everyone is a minority

Maybe they don't want to be the kid who gets pointed out as the teacher's example of "someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas" every winter, like the one poor Jewish kid at my school.

This is not true. Maybe some schools are like that, but many are still predominantly white and Christian.

I have to wonder if the person who wrote this is white.

You must live in a very exclusive neighborhood, where are these schools?

I'd think twice about South County.

Unfortunately, this happens everywhere. Many recent incidents in MCPS.

Apparently, Braband has issued sort of an apology. The teacher's response was unacceptable. She blamed it on Trump. The student did eight "cartoons" to "ridicule" racism--but the only one displayed was the anti-Jewish one. Since the artist is of a different minority, it makes it especially troubling.
The teacher has no sense at all and clearly has a political agenda. I doubt she is anti-Semetic but she lets her hatred of Trump overcome her judgment.

Given the political leanings of the FCPS School Board these days and their assertion that every decision must be "filtered through a One Fairfax lens," the teacher will get a bonus or promotion.

I thought "One Fairfax" was supposed to prevent this type of thing. I guess it does unless you are making a point against Trump.

Seems to me the fault lies with whomever displayed the picture without presenting the context that it was meant to ridicule ethnic stereotypes. But the teacher should have recognized this, and ensured context was presented, rather than go off on a political rant against Trump.
