| I’m 5’6.5” and my goal weight is 150. I am a comfortable size 6 and my boobs still have a little meat in them. Currently I weigh 205. Down from 235. I’m sooooo close to the 100s I can taste it. |
Good job! I'm 5'5" and would love to get into a size 10. But I won't complain about being a size 12, either. I just want to feel good, look healthy and be able to do the things that I like to do. I'm a size 16 now. I'm guessing 20 more pounds will get me to a size 12. |
| I'm 5'4" and would like to get to 110. I'm currently 115 but have a very small frame. I'm relatively healthy, but my exercising is inconsistent. I would need to probably do some running, HIIT, and weights to get there, but that sounds like a lot. I think I'll not really concentrate on the weight but just try to exercise a bit most days. I complain about DC's heat, but it does motivate me to exercise. |
You are a size 6 at 205? |
| I’m 50, 5’9”, tall but small boned, and 140. In my younger, healthier days, I was around 130-135. I eat well now but don’t exercise much and drink like a fish. I just cut out alcohol and started walking 45-60 minutes most days. I’m not sure if I’ll lose any weight, but I suspect I’ll be a lot healthier if I can keep up good habits. |
| 5'8 and 135. Not looking to lose any weight. I'm working out a lot and lifting weights because I want well defined, but not big muscles. I'm happy with how I look. |
Bone structure has rapidly changed in a few generations. We are physically healthier (more resilient/strong) than our mothers, grandmothers, etc. Maybe more emotionally/mental fragile, but that’s another can of worms. |
| What makes you think we are more resilient/strong than out mothers, grandmothers? I don't think this is the case with me at all. My grandma was born in 1910, ate food they grew back in Europe, worked in the garden and with animals, took food to the fields if she wasn't working. Had to make the fire first for many decades and cooked for a large family. My mom is not healthy so much right now, but post WWII child, survived being preemie, worked out of school till retirement, put up with above mentioned grandma....her MIL, still cleaned and cooked after 8 hours work. Opened her own business, took insane care of my dad her husband when he was sick and immobile. How are we stronger than them in any aspect? My grandma survived two wars and had three kids during WWII and raised them while being a peasant. Are you rich? |
Well, one huge difference is the lower smoking rates, at least in the US. One of the reasons so many people were thin in the 40s-60s is that many of them were smoking, which decreases your appetite. Just because your grandma managed to survive a hard life doesn't mean she was inherently stronger than your mom, or you. She simply rose to the occasion, and it's certainly possible you would be able to do the exact same thing if you had to. Peasants in Europe typically did not have access to the broad range of nutritious foods we do. My great-grandparents lived in Russia, Ukraine, Malta, and Japan. They weren't particularly rich and I wouldn't say they were eating a particularly healthy diet. They were strong and resilient because they had to be. I don't know that they were any stronger or weaker than my grandparents, parents, or me. They survived and got to the US because they had no other choice (other than dying for the Russian/Ukrainian side -- pogroms were happening). |
I would say that in really poor countries, the physically weakest people usually died before adulthood (they died as infants, or they died as children when illnesses passed through, or they starved during a famine, or if they had special needs, they died because they didn't get proper care or were stuck in an orphanage). |
| It really bothers me when people tell someone who is thin that it is unhealthy. I am 5'11" and have a very small build. I always ate plenty although I was never one to eat a whole bag of chips or carton of ice cream. In my 20's, I was around 125. Unfortunately, time has caught up with me and at 58, I am around 165 which is too heavy for my build even though my BMI is fine (BMI is one indicator, not the whole story). I am working to get back to 150 which is where I feel I look my best. I weigh more now than I did when pregnant!! |
My MIL did all of this but she's tiny due to ricketts (childhood spent eating potato peels in a Soviet labor camp). She's no doubt mentally stronger than me, but her bones are not. |
No. That pp was saying that when she reaches 150 she's a size 6. |
|
I am 5'7" and my goal weight is 135. I am currently around 140 after two back to back kids. My lowest weight was 123 when I got married (stress induced) and I highly doubt I will ever see that weight again.
I do not diet ever and eat way to many carbs, which is probably why I can't lose the last 5lbs. I do work out 3-5 times a week on Peloton though! |
Peasants who were better off... not maybe enough to have hired labor worked hard, but had good food they grew or raised on their own. But, yes, early 1900s in Russia?? That is a horror story few people tell today. Heck even if you are talking prior and after WWII Soviet Union... that was even worse. |
