It’s pretty creepy, yes.

No one knows anything about this man? Where did he go to school? Nothing?

MD case search is informative.

Whoa...

Does anyone know if the siblings are adults? Can’t imagine trying to return to school or college in January after this.

There's a wapo article up. Her other kids are 18 and 21. When the police told them their mother was dead, the other son asked if it was his brother who killed his mother. Awful.

For gosh sakes that is a cruel thing to say.
Why don’t you talk about how supportive you would be of a friend or classmate that this happened to???

Not if the kid has mental health issues. Going through this now with a 12 year old son. It’s constant chaos. I read the story and wondered if someday this will be me.

My kid is a little older but I share the same fear. And not only chaos, but there really isn’t much in the way of help to deal with the situation. My son knows exactly what to say to crisis and doctors so that he doesn’t get admitted. And unless there is actual violence, the police can’t help.

You absolutely never know. Some kids are fine all of their lives and the severe mental illness creeps in around ages 18-20. One of my brothers had to be institutionalized for 2 years at age 20.
The problem is that nowadays people aren’t institutionalized - no one wants to pay for it is mostly the reason . I understand how people shouldn’t be put away for life — they used to institutionalize Mentally retarded people for life - but what we have now is not good at all. Mostly what they do now is a 3 day hold if they are a danger to themselves or others which does not fix anyone ( my brother has been gainfully employed for years and stable).

I sincerely hope that you don’t have to deal with this, PP.

It sounds like this mom had done many things right as her son was living in his own housing.

Where is dad?

How is that cruel? I was being sympathetic thinking that it would be one more horrible choice to make. My DD’s grades went down the semester after her cousin was killed by the police. No matter how supportive people are, you just can’t focus completely on papers and exams.

This is my middle brother. Very intelligent and charming, but also very, very ill nonetheless. I think my mom is alive only because he decided he didn’t want to accompany her when she moved from his preferred part of town.
