Wamart would come into town and drive other smaller mom and pop shops out of business. Now every town is going to look the same. No variety. That's one reason. |
Rich people set up and take advantage of these loopholes and then they have the middle class pay for it all. Of course the middle class is angry, but often times they get suckered into being angry at the wrong people. The whole of Donald Ts appeal is middle class people being angry at low paid workers and immigrants receiving things like Medicaid and food stamps and look at those awful freeloaders. They should be angry at the big corporations and farms who are paying these people peanuts so that they can pad their own pockets (and those of their shareholders) and then shuttling them off to the welfare lines but they aren’t for some reason. We’ve become a stupid, crass society. |
And then wal mart leaves and what are you left with? |
+1 My mom says places like Wal-Mart help perpetuate poverty. You spend less per item, but it's often poor quality, so you end up spending more over time. Also, IME, their customer service is terrible, and they treat their employees poorly. They use heavy-handed anti-union tactics. They are frequently penalized for wage theft (both failing to pay overtime and compelling employees to work off the clock). Wal-Mart isn't unique in any of these things, but they are big enough and profitable enough that this stuff is particularly egregious, and makes them a symbol of corporate greed. |
Don't leave out Amazon! |
| I used to think walmart was terrible but that’s before we moved into a town with a couple. When I go, it’s one stop shopping and the employees are nice (that may be where I live, people are friendly here). I know they have a poor reputation for wages and benefits, but at least there are people employed in my town. I am trying to reduce amazon dependence because I think they treat their employees even worse, it doesn’t support anyone locally, and there is no human interaction at all. |
Definitely Amazon. I have intentionally reduced my ordering from Amazon--when possible, I order from another store, even an online store, just to try to support the competition. (But that Prime shipping can be hard to beat when I need things more last-minute!) |

It's where lots of fights breakout.

From my experience, sellers on Walmart seem sketchy. I received broken stuff and it was hard to return them. And I could not get anyone at Walmart to respond to my email complaints about the seller.
This has never happened at Amazon. At worst, you have to pay for return shipping for non-Amazon sellers. But couple of times, Amazon just credited my account for items under $10 and I did not have to return it. A world of difference between the two companies. |
A rusting hulk of a building and a 20-minute drive to the Super Walmart two towns over. |
I live in a small city and our Walmart has better service than the IGA. They are super friendly and helpful. |
|
Amazon has surpassed Walmart.
Wake up, people. |
I could have written this! |
This. Go read Nickel and Dimed. WAlmart hands out forms for public assistance upon hiring employees. That said, if it was the only place near me, I would shop there. Target is much closer so I shop there instead. |
| The starting wage at Walmart is $11 an hour. The pay is pretty good compared to the other jobs their employees can get (fast food, etc) that often pay minimum wage. |
