Wow, are you going to take it?

Yes we are.

Congrats! What kind of number did you have originally? Sorry to be so nosy, I am just trying to figure out if I should take the possibility seriously now that the list is moving so fast all of a sudden.

No problem, we were originally wait-listed in the mid-thirties. And yes it definitely moved fast all of a sudden!

Why so much movement in K?

School already started so hard to fill even one spot as others are already set in routine at current school.

It also sounds like maybe their registrar took the summer off or they strategically don't move their list during the summer. I guess doing it in the fall saves work in that they know for sure who will be there ... though, it seems very tough on families having to make late August choices.

yes, and how nice to get families you know will stay since the lottery shuffle is over. I supect the spots were open earlier but it is easier with such a huge waitlist to just wait and so not bring families on board who leave in August when stokes or MV moves. BTW CMI got a lot of grief for 48 hour tunrarounds because they favor families with means. is no one gong to complain about 24 hours?

I don’t think so. I think a K student left first week of school.

You may want to talk to the special ed folks at ITS. They are usually quite responsive and might give you an idea of how things could go with the IEP.

The Special Ed team at ITS is amazing!

Adding more info - ask to meet with Bevan Morrison, the Special Education Coordinator. I've been very happy with the services provided and Bevan is great to work with.

My numbet for K has dropped 30 spots since August 1st. Is there something going on that I should be aware of?

People WOTP got their "free" preschool and don't want to do the commute anymore so they go to either their IB DCPS.
Other thing is that the Mundo list has moved over 80 spots so some are trading over for language.

Not any more than any other school moving lists quickly to fill one spot after people have started at their school (MV has moved almost triple, CMI as well). Why would you be worried?

Thank you. I did not list MV or CMI so I did not know. I was just surprised because it had not moved very fast all summer, then took a nose dive.

NP and not at ITS. I wouldn’t call it a nosedive. It is very common to move a bunch of spots after school starts. Maybe one current kid moved away and school didn’t know they were moving, at that point the kids on WL have already started another school (likely at a school they ranked similarly). Many folks don’t want to jump ship after school starts. Especially with 4-5 year olds.

Maybe people lower on the list have a different experience, but my number was 62 on August 19 and is 32 today. In that time, Two Rivers has moved 4 spots and DC Bilingual has moved zero.

Now ITS is down to 29. Is this really normal?

Yes, they typically make 35-45 WL offers for K.

The K list continues to drop like a stone-- I just got an email that there are two offers out for K that expire on Thursday at 9 AM.

Honestly, I would not worry. Those that have good wait list numbers probably matched at pretty good schools too.

They seem to have strategically waited to make offers until late summer and that just means more people won't see accepting the offer as worth it.

We didn't list the school but had good luck this year and know that charters often listed with Inspired filled their spots in June so at a time when making a decision to decline a match and accept a wait list offer was lower stakes.

Did anyone else get the email? We were #21 when we got it.
