A family of 6 and just one large pizza?

Yes. Especially with eating a salad in addition.

Same here. Sometimes I'll go for two, or for the kid's crust, but one is really enough for an evening meal! No disorder here. Just don't need as many calories these days.

No it's not. You are finishing dinner hungry. Which is fine I guess, but be honest with yourself.

It would have felt greedy.

+1. I think we used to have that lousy '70's salad with iceberg lettuce if we had pizza. Milk. Fruit if you were still hungry. But I honestly don't remember getting pizza out very often when I was a kid (maybe ever). One of my brothers used to make homemade pizza from a box when it

There is a family like this at my pool. There are 5 of them, 2 boys, and a daughter, and the family orders one large pizza every friday night. The kids then go from table to table begging other people for food. Its a cheap thing.

My last year of undergrad, our cafeteria on campus switched to a "food court" model. This was a small, southern college and dinner was served as an actual seated meal. Once we had the do-it-yourself food court setup, people went NUTS. I ate 1 slice of pizza and a huge salad every night. EVERY NIGHT, because up to that point then pizza was a once-in-a-while treat.

Now as an adult, I always feel incomplete if I'm out somewhere and the meal is pizza. Like, JUST pizza? I need my veggies. And yes, I carry an apple in my purse in case i need to keep full.

I also struggle with how much pizza to order if I'm tasked to bring a snack or whatever to a function. I never get it right, LOL.

+1 I went to a nutrition class that taught me that the appropriate serving of pizza for an adult is 1/3 of a slice. People eat too much pizza.

Well now that's just ridiculous! My debate with myself when eating a frozen pizza is whether I should eat a third of it at one sitting, or half. Dilemma! Thankfully I don't eat pizza much.

Yeah, that 1/3 of a slice seems off. 1/3 of a frozen pizza is typically a serving size with about 300 calories. But 1/3 of a slice of delivery? At kids' birthday parties and sports the slices are often cut in half. They're small. I can't imagine 1/3 a slice satisfying a teenager or adult, even with salad, veggies, etc.

I think she misheard the nutritionist. Maybe she was there for a weight loss class?

A large pepperoni pizza on normal crust is around 2800 calories.

Divide that by 8 slices and you get about 350 clories.

Divide that slice by a third and you get about 116 calories. Not a reasonable meal for a normal adult.

No one said a healthy meal should consist only of pizza. Eat a third of a slice and add something else---perhaps...green beans and fruit?

Young actually has a very handy way to determine if you're eating the right amount. And, it turns out, it really is handy (in that all you need are your hands): one serving of pizza equals the size of one or two of your hands. Says Young: "Since portion size is highly individual, it's partly a matter of how many of your daily calories you might want to 'spend' on—for example—pizza that day. One slice of pizza is about six ounces and 300 to 400 calories. I would recommend enjoying one slice and pair it with a salad, roasted vegetables or fresh fruit, and a glass of water or low-fat milk."

If you're eating 3 slices of pizza in one sitting-you're basically eating a day's worth of calories for a moderately sedentary adult female.

My BIL makes a small lasagna for 14 people. We all get a piece about the size of a Matchbox car. And no sides except for small pieces of bread. We always go eat out afterward, because we are starving.

These people are out there.

If it's a NY style slice of pizza, one slice + a salad is plenty.

I see people ordering two slices of the Costco pizza per person all the time and it grosses me out. Some of those slices are as big as a baby's head!

The only time I eat more than one slice is if it's a very thin crust, like Pizza Hut's thin crust, or one similar.

My dad's favorite food is/was pizza. He ate it all the time and could easily eat 4 or 5 pieces like it was no big deal. He wasn't a big guy at all, average height & normal weight. He's not allowed pizza since he had triple bypass 2 years ago. He's allowed 2.5 mg of saturated fat per day. Most people eat that amount in just the creamer in their morning coffee. He said he wishes he'd have been more like me & my mom, who always ate once slice & a salad. He'd still be eating pizza and all of the other yummy foods out there.

What is it with the green beans, lady?

Family of 4, we have left overs from one large pizza. Two teen boys, competitive swimmers. They just don't eat a lot of pizza.

And we're Catholic, which I add because I totally do not get the posts about religion having anything to do with pizza eating???? Please explain.

So pizza as an appetizer? I lost weight using MFP and on average cheese pizza is 250cal. IF I had pizza, I eat 2 slices ans call it a day. No need to eat greenbeans on pizza night. Defeats the purpose.

Anonymous wrote:Just curious...all of you who are literally saying you have like a full slice or less...do you have an eating disorder?

I ask because this is not normal. I do know of people who do this though. And every one of them has an eating disorder or weird relationships with food.

A salad is normal to eat with a pizza. My family always orders veggie pizza so we at least get some vegetables while eating it. But green beans as a side for pizza? No. And I am a skinny adult female and can eat 3 pieces easy. But definitely two every time. One slice of pizza is not enough for anyone.

Disordered eating. A slice of Dominos pizza is 290cal.

Do you even know me? I'm not hungry after dinner! Be honest with yourself, how heavy are you? Like it when people make assumptions?

I guess I don't just eat one thing for a meal. Pizza (i.e. Carbs+cheese) for me goes with salad. Variety is the spice of life and all...

I'm very thin and always eat 2-3 pieces.
