For those who work 9-5 jobs

Op, I know several families who cook once a week, on the weekends. They freeze and heat throughout the week. If the food runs out before the week is over they order take out until the weekend.

Ordering takeout wouldn't help OP who takes an hour to pick up takeout and another hour to eat it!

Eat your main meal at lunchtime that you get from the food trucks or wherever. Eat a sandwich or yogurt at night for dinner. Exercise at home once you get home. Then your finished for the evening and you can relax, watch TV, etc.

I am on the fact that you have to hours scheduled every single night for the process of making (or just buying!) and eating dinner. Seriously, what is going on here? Why is this taking you a huge percentage of your day?

I am all about the slow food movement but I spend like 5 hours per week cooking for a family of 4.

Can you please explain how exactly you are filling two hours with this basic task?

It's easy to take that long if you cook full meals from scratch and uncle time for dishes. When I did blue apron most of the recipes said it would take around 30 minutes but it usually took 40-50.

Op is there any way you can cut down on your lunch hour to leave the office earlier? I recommend that and spending less time preparing dinner. This will give you time to work out in the evening.

You leave work at 6 and don't get home until 8:30? Ouch.

I have a similar schedule, but also have a dog. I grocery shop on the weekends. I cook a couple dishes that make 4 servings on Sunday. I eat half of it Sun-tues/wed, then freeze the rest. The second half of the week I eat things from the freezer that I cooked in previous weeks. Or I have a sandwich, salad or can of tuna.

6:30-7--wake up
7-730--walk dog, feed dog and cat
730-8--shower, make-up, pack lunch and breakfast (I no longer drink coffee)
8-9--commute
9-5:30--work, w/ 30 min lunch
5:30-645--commute
6:45--shove snack in mouth (piece of cheese or nuts and fruit)
7-745--walk dog
8--9-- gym or yoga class
9-10 eat light dinner and watch tv or clean house
10-- walk dog again; more tv
11--go to bed; read for a bit

I don't work out every night, but this is how it works when I do. You have to prioritize exercising. Right now it comes after goofing off time, but you have to put it first. You should listen to books on tape on your drive home and consider that your entertainment for the evening.

Are you grocery shopping every day?

Get groceries one day. And use that hour the rest of the week to work out.

5 pages and OP has yet to acknowledge anything?

The OP needs to grocery shop once a month and get everything then. The OP can get multiple meals out of a lot of things that way.

If you get two 15 min breaks then walk during those; also walk during your lunch break

5:30-6:30 - wake up, shower, eat breakfast
6:30-7:30 - commute to work
7:30-4:30 - work
4:30-6:00 - commute home
6:00-7:00 - make dinner, eat, digest (ideally leftovers)
7:00-8:00 - workout, shower
8:00-10:00 - relax then sleep!

It's tough but manageable! I'd say wake up earlier, prepare meals ahead of time, and/or find a new job!

This is almost exactly my schedule, except my workout is usually at 8.

Same here, when I was single and without kids. I went to the gym every night at 8 pm, after dinner.

I get up to workout at 4:30 so I can be showered & dressed by 6:15 to wake my kids because my son's bus is at 7 & then I take DD to daycare and go to work.

Wait - this is really a thread by someone who (i) is childless, and (ii) works only an 8 hour day, and can't find time to work out? Jesus.

OP, go shopping on the weekend, put in 2 hours of cooking, and you have dinner for the week (and if you do it right, 2+ weeks). Also, get up earlier and work out. You may have to forego some Netflix time.

And never have kids until you figure out how to budget your time.

Jesus.

Get dressed faster and go workout at the gym before work. That way you already got your exercise for the day so it makes more sense to spend your work day resting. Spend less time buying your food. Take the stairs instead of elevators.
