When I had your commute, I had two workout options:
1) Workout in office gym during lunch hour 2) Workout in building gym in the morning before shower. I got up at 5am to workout. Otherwise, my schedule looked similar to your schedule. It sucks but you get used to it. |
Tough commute. Here are some options: 1. join a gym near your work, drive there first thing and work out, shower, get to work 2. join a gym near your work, work out and shower during your lunch hour 3. join a gym near home, work out 7:30-8:30. make meals on weekends and just reheat [this is tough, hard to work out after a full day of working and commuting]. 4. join a gym that has locations near work and home, do the morning workout thing few days a week, workout on weekends. |
| Also, OP, why are you getting groceries EVERY week night. In my house, we do one weekly shop. We buy ingredients and plan meals. Occasionally, someone needs to swing by the store because we're out of something and didn't plan ahead. But that's unusual. If you do your shopping on a weekend morning, you can work out from 7:30-8:30 instead. |
| Eliminate the time to "get groceries" and "get comfy." Get groceries on the weekend and limit your takeout to one weeknight so you have 4 other ones to work out. There's an hour right there. I don't know why you need an hour to "get comfy" before dinner, either. That's another half hour you can put toward a workout. If you have the space, make a small home gym in your basement or do videos like P90X. I'm a runner, so I don't have to waste time driving to a gym. I walk out the door and the world is my gym, lol. If it's that important to you, you will find the time. |

OP if you would wake even a half hour earlier, do yoga or online exercise, you would be MUCH more energized for the entire day....also, I agree with poster that asked why are you getting groceries every night? And if not, why are you getting dinner every night? Groceries 1-2 week--that will save you that additional hour each night.... And I wouldn't eat that late either..... |
| OP do you not live with anyone or have any friends? When I was single I would meet friends after work a lot. It seems sort of lonely. |
Ha ha ha. This. I spend much less time on getting ready. My morning routine is 5:30-7:30: prepare breakfast, get kids ready for school, etc the time I spend on me is about 15 min on average. So you could theoretically fit in an exercise then. Exercise during your lunch break. 1 hour is enough to exercise (e.g. Jog or power walk or gym near work), and to eat something quickly. I bring lunch from home, so don't spend time standing in line or going to buy food. Same for evening, could do a jog / exercise after work before you head home, or after you get home. |

I have a long commute too. Here's my typical routine on days I workout.
5:30-6:30 - wake up, shower, eat breakfast 6:30-7:30 - commute to work 7:30-4:30 - work 4:30-6:00 - commute home 6:00-7:00 - make dinner, eat, digest (ideally leftovers) 7:00-8:00 - workout, shower 8:00-10:00 - relax then sleep! It's tough but manageable! I'd say wake up earlier, prepare meals ahead of time, and/or find a new job! |

Tighten up that evening time, go to bed earlier, and get up earlier to work out.
Or, work out during lunch and eat at your desk. Or, work out in the evenings. And: find a way to shorten that commute. I had one like that for about 14 months and had to find something else, much as I loved the job. That much sitting is so unhealthy. And when I had that job, I got up very early to work out. |

I'm really lucky to WFH two days a week. I quit the gym rears ago but fit in walks and weight training at home. If you can fit in 10-15 minute walks during the day it adds up. Walking is great for you and doesn't require a shower after. I also do a quick evening walk most nights.
Mix in some body weight exercise thru the week and you've got a great routine. It doesn't require hours. |

I actually work 8 to 5, but I have a short commute and older kids who have aged past childcare.
I run MWF during the workday, about 45 minutes, whenever I can fit it in. I simply need to put in the time and meet my commitments, so sometimes I run at 9, or at 11, or at 3. I lift 2X a week at home. |
| This is so easy. You have to work out before work and you need to grocery shop for the week on Saturday or Sunday. Even just waking up at 6am and doing 30 minutes of jogging or a home workout video or a class at the gym will make a world of difference in your health and energy levels. It will only suck for the first week and then you'll get used to it. No idea why you grocery shop during the week either. Just do it on the weekend. Or subscribe to Plated or Hello Fresh or Galley where they deliver the meal ingredients or fully prepared meal to your doorstep. |
| if you have kids and/or long commute, hitting the gym at lunchtime is key... at least a few days a week. |
