You figure out how to stop killing children then. If you want to own guns, you need to figure out how to keep them safe. Clean up your own mess.

That's an easy one, concentrate on parental skills. Mandatory annual parenting skills training and testing. Random drug testing of all parents. Random home inspections of all parents. Three strikes and you lose legal rights to your kids and they go to foster care.

Sounds good. You call Noah's mom, or Jett's dad, and tell them what terrible parents they are. Have the NRA help you make those calls, and maybe some of the Republicans in Congress too.

Well your basic premise is gun owners need better training and oversight of how they store/handle guns. All I'm saying is why stop there? Why not have more training and oversight of all things that cause deaths to innocents? The list of which is many more than just guns.

Or do you not want that because it may personally impact your freedoms? Which screams you're not really concerned for the innocents.

Not the PP you are responding to, but given there are other dangerous things out there too and yes, education would help but why deflect and point at everything else while not doing ANYTHING? Start with guns.

Why start with guns? They aren't the leading cause of death for anyone.

Neither are cars we should not have laws, regulations, insurance or age limitations/requirements on them either, if that is your argument.

That's not my argument. Besides, there are many laws, regulations, and age limitations on gun purchases and ownership. It's not clear how more of those would do anything.

274 kids killed or injured in 2016 alone. Almost 1400 teenagers.

Again, why I personally am all for charging these idiots who leave loaded weapons for children to find with negligence. Because it isn't just a "tragic accident" when a child easily accesses a loaded gun. That shouldn't happen if you are a responsible gun owner following the rules for proper storage of your gun and your ammunition.

Responsible gun owners should be advocating for LEGISLATION, not merely rules, so that so-called responsible gun ownership can be enforced.

Obviously, there aren't that many of you. For the moment, responsible and gun ownership aren't terms that go together in this country. I sincerly hope that changes and people can keep their guns. But if gun owners can't drive that change, I will continue to support efforts to abolish guns entirely.

You're obviously either totally unaware or full of shit. There are more guns in this country than cars and trucks combined. Think about it, if the vast number of gun owners were irresponsible there would be many many more gun accidents/deaths.

Guns aren't even in the top 5 preventable causes of death.

Looks like you should be advocating for more tobacco laws, not gun laws. Gun deaths are down in the noise.

You can rant and rave about terrorists all you want. Armed Americans are the worst enemy of America.

If your goal is really to save people, then push for banning junk food.

I'd rather die by Cheetos than shot by a gun.

I question the stats on gun deaths because by law the government isn't allowed to collect the data. How can anyone justify making the gathering of information illegal? If you have to hide the facts, you have a problem.

It's not illegal to collect the data. It's illegal to do research that promotes or advocates for or against gun control. It's the nature of statistics, you can bend them to support almost any conclusion.
