Good points and agree on all. I would also add (and not to in any way to blame the victim or suggest cause), but the motives of the attackers are unknown as well, and we don't know what role (if any) the stabbing victim played or what events may have precipitated the attack. It could have been a random assault but seems highly likely. There's an untold story here. The principal's response was appropriate as it addresses a violent incident which would be potentially disturbing on various levels. |

For whatever reason, several posters appear to be under the impression that this thread is about MS-13. We have no idea whether the incident that is the subject of this thread has anything to do with that group. Since my attempts at persuasion on this point have failed, I have now resorted to the other tools at my disposal and removed nearly an entire page of messages dealing with MS-13. It strikes me as somewhat racist to leap from the fact that the participants were apparently Hispanic to allegations of the involvement of MS-13 and discussion of deportation. I think that reveals a number of prejudiced assumptions that are not appropriate for this forum.

| I wonder if I relates to the recent violence in Alexandria--why people's thoughts are turning to MS -13. |
This is so similar to all the accusations about the Eastern students being accused of terrorizing the Capitol Hill residents. Yet, it was proven and substantiated that it was criminals coming in from PG County to prey on the Cap Hill residents. They told the police that the residents were easy prey; which many failed to understand that the Eastern students were victims as well. But when the Cap Hill residents were assaulted the immediate description was about a youth wearing khaki pants and a navy blue hoodie. There you guessed it, all eyes were upon Eastern and when Eastern retorted that they were being robbed and assaulted; the critical response was "they" are assaulting each other like a pack of dogs. Which now been disclosed as not being the case....with latest shooting of Eastern students not one Cap Hill resident has probably reached out to the school in any form or fashion. Again, it was proven that it was non-Eastern student who did this heinous act but nonetheless a random criminal with a gun who shot into a crowd of students. It gets old so very quick, with this assertion that every minority is associated with some type of gang when an incident happens...but life goes on. |
I'm white. But I have to admit I'm interested in the double standard on this one. When it's Wilson HS, and not black kids then the discussion gets scrubbed because of prejudice. But DCUM is rife with threads with all manner of racist crap talking about black people, their behavior, violence, etc. Apparently when it's a black HS EOTP this kind of prejudice is more acceptable? Got to ask if that double standard in and of itself reveals a number of prejudiced assumptions. |
You must be new on DCUM. Jeff actively censors out anything that can offend delicate black sensitivities, much quicker than anything offending delicate white ones |
You seem to have your own prejudiced assumptions about how I moderate. It is interesting that you are contrasting "Wilson" and "black kids" which are not things that are normally comparable. Black and white kids go to Wilson. For that matter, the posts that I've been removing are prejudiced against Hispanics. Hispanics can be black or white (or somewhere in between). So, I'm not sure why you are making this a racial issue. But, if you think that I am not removing posts that are racist against black folks, you are welcome to report them and bring them to my attention. In addition, you could have an interesting discussion with the racists here who constantly complain about me removing their posts about black people. |

Black mom here IB for Wilson. Jeff does an amazing job moderating against all ingorant hate on these boards, regardless of color. I actually wish he would let some slide so some people can be as disgusted by neighbors as I am.
Thank you Jeff for all you do. |

That's your goal? To be disgusted by neighbors? I had a lovely walk around Tenley yesterday and today. I waved at the police whose patrol car was firmly planted on the sidewalk by the Metro elevator (that's where they need to be. I thank them). I loved the Whole Foods madness and the faces I recognize whom I hope are heading home safely right now. I went to McDonald's this morning and thanked the person keeping it clean' it's one of the nicest McDonald's I've ever been to. He said he travels across the city to work there. It made me doubly mad at the Walmart pullout/though I wonder how connected that is to DCs minimum wage initiatives. I thanked the mailmen and firefighters who were everywhere this AM. I love Tenleytown, and I want to keep it the livable community it is.
The stabbing is appalling. Yesterday's robbery at Breadfurst is appalling. Wilson's issues will be ameliorated when they institute address code, an honor code work to get more kids taking a mix of classes (not you're in top tier or you're out) and cooperate fully and vigorously and enthusiastically with local policing. We all need to support our DC police and let them know we want them out there doing what they do. Cheers everyone. Stay safe! |
The Tenleytown McDonald's plays classical music much of the time to dissuade students from hanging out there for extended periods. It's apparently a tried and true method and a pretty rational decision on their part. |
| I've always wondered about the classical music--makes it darned pleasant in there. Drives away teens and draws in lots of coffee hugging elderly. |
| Have you seen the new free trade Rwandan coffee shop next to UPS? Doubt that will be much of a Wilson hang-out. |
I DO like the classical music there. Certainly better than hip hop or rap! |
