DC Public and Public Charter Schools
| Oh lighten up, everyone. |
+1. Time for some linguistic diversity, folks. It's very good for the brain! |
No, they lead kids to bring loaded semi automatics to school to protect themselves, tussle with 18th Streeters and cause chaos on "their day" every month (the 13th) and are fucking dangerous. I'm fine with you denying they are at Wilson, not fine with you being flip about Mara Salvatrucha. Do you think this is funny? MS 13 is not funny it is so frightening that we will do anything to avoid putting our Latina girls in a school where they have even a slight presence. They are organized as all hell and full of stone cold killers who come up with elders who saw it all during the civil war in El Salvador. Of course many of those guys are dead or deported now. |

I am the original poster about MS 13. Yes I meant ask a particular teacher I have spoken to who teaches Spanish, not a Hispanic teacher. And I am not going to identify the teacher by telling you whether he or she is Hispanic or not, because that really was and remains completely and totally irrelevant.
I have personal familiarity with MS 13 - too much, actually. So I know how hardcore this particular gang is, and not from working in DC - from working in a state nearby where they basically dominate entire schools and parts of cities. The Wikipedia reference was about the 18th Street gang, which I had never heard of because it is not common on the East Coast, or at least this part. When I was told that they were also at Wilson I looked THEM up on Wikipedia, and it does say that they operate in DC. I could not get a real sense of how they compare to MS 13 just from Wikipedia, and they don't operate where I work. The most recent Wilson student I heard from about all of this was Anglo, if anyone cares, and feels completely safe at Wilson on the Honors/AP track. From what I understand they don't bang in school. But they have an attitude and I'm sure that things that happen at school get taken care of once they are back on their own turf or maybe even outside the school. So yes, that was pure speculation on my part. But if you have Hispanic kids from Wilson fighting each other and you are confident about the presence of two Hispanic gangs, one of which is notoriously vicious, it is a logical leap. I imagine they have their crews in school and their beefs, and butt heads. Wilson is still Wilson. Read the Beacon if you want to know about sexual harassment, which I'm sure most Wilson parents would say is not a problem either. Those kid reporters rock, truly. And sorry to stereotype, but having lived it, sexual harassment sometimes takes on an entirely different meaning when you are dealing with Hispanic men/boys, and if you are dealing with MS 13, forget it. I have girls, and at least one would be on the non honors AP track, in classes with these kids. That is enough for me for the girls. I cannot tell you how much I wish I could be comfortable sending my boys to Wilson, because it is a great opportunity. My husband grew up in another city surrounded by Hispanic gangs and he has said there is no way in hell any of our kids are going to Wilson, and he decides. Love the "speak English, dammit." Do you want to build a wall? Or do you support a path to "legalization" rather than "citizenship" for kids who were brought here by their parents at 6 months old when the choice was stay in Mexico and die because you fucked with someone in a Cartel, or flee and recognize that you cannot file for political asylum here because Mexico is a "democracy." A democracy, mind you, that just massacred another group of students recently (they have done it before, will do it again...) but because it is not China, no one will remember. They also massacre entire villages of the still existing indigenous peoples there when it suits their purposes. These kids speak frigging English, as do I, but cannot get federal financial aid for college, and if they ever get deported, God help them. Most of them at least speak Spanish (not true of all MS 13 members these days who get deported to El Salvador), but most have no family left in Mexico because the country is such a wreck right now that even wealthy Mexican families are living (probably legally) in Texas... Get a life, and get Rosetta Stone. They are having a sale on the Spanish as it is spoken in Latin America - only $200 and maybe you would become capable of speaking another language instead of just spewing hatred. And of course this probably for you is not just about language anyway. Interesting fact about our judicial system. Absolutely a constitutional violation to get rid of all AA people (or all whites for that matter) on a jury. If you can prove it appeals are granted all the way up the ladder. However, if the case involves even one witness who speaks only Spanish (including of course the defendant, who may never take the stand), the lawyers can ask if you speak Spanish. If you do, they can ask whether, if a witness who was testifying in Spanish said something different than what is translated into English (the English version is the official testimony and the only one transcribed, so no appeal there), would you be able to ignore the witness and go with the translator. Most of us say no. How on earth could you say yes? You heard and understood the original testimony, not just the screwed up translation. Guess what? That lawyer is allowed to kick all of you out of the pool for cause. You never even get seated in the jury box. What an easy way to kick all people of a certain ethnic origin (if they still speak their native language) off a jury for an issue that technically has nothing to do with race. No Batson violation. SO SPEAK ENGLISH DAMMIT, AND ONLY ENGLISH, or you will be kicked out of every jury pool that involves a Hispanic defendant and even one witness who cannot speak English, or Chinese, or whatever the flavor of the day is. Just sayin' Peace and let's put the whole gang issue to bed now. It is obvious I am not going to convince you because my kids don't go to Wilson, even though this is why my kids don't and won't go to Wilson, and you definitely are not going to convince me of something I have spoken about and checked on to confirm again very recently with a) a Wilson teacher b) both Anglo and Hispanic Wilson students c) Hispanic parents of Wilson kids and, last but not least, d) the DC police - both in Ward 3 and where these kids are coming from, which is not Ward 3. I asked at least one person after this thread started, because you guys really convinced me I might be wrong, that they might have somehow stopped going to Wilson, which would have been great news for our family. Eventually all the kids from this part of the city are (I think) going to be cut out of Wilson entirely, but not soon enough for my kids. I do know MS 13. Don't doubt that. Have you ever heard anyone refer to Alexandria by a different name? And all the boys from my husband's elementary school, all Hispanic, are all either in prison or dead. Don't doubt that either. So for us this stuff is very real. And it is enough. We did not need 18th Street or Wikipedia but I was really skeptical about that claim because I did not think they operated anywhere in our area, but the all omniscient Wikipedia says otherwise, as did the cops once I knew to ask the question. THIS is the world my family lives in. No one else has to come live here with us. But don't talk about sign ups in the gym. If you knew anything about the Maras you would realize that for people who have been exposed to real gangs - not just little neighborhood crews who are slinging and still deciding which direction to go in for the rest of their lives - this is completely disrespectful. But I forget myself. You don't give a flying fuck because it doesn't involve you or your kids at all, yet you scared your kids by asking, and then you come here and suggest that they have a sign up sheet in the gymnasium. To be quite honest, I think this is one of the threads that has made me feel the worst about DCUM parents of DCPS kids and Wilson parents in particular. No offense, Jeff. |
OMG. You used the Spanish for "MS" you must be credible!!! Or have access to a Google machine... |
I hope that you know that is not what happened at Wilson. The kid brought the gun to plant on another student. There hasn't been any suggestion that the incident was linked to MS-13 or any other gang. |
So what are they doing? Why no permanent community police officers placed outside the school where trouble occurs over and over and over? And why do Wilson parents rally in denial and defense of the kids over and over and over rather than demanding that safe passage for all inside and outside the school be a priority? And why total silence from Ward 3 Rep Cheh? it's madness. - a neighbor |
The 'they' who need to do something is MPD. In addition to Cheh, get your ANC involved and talk to your MPD district commander. |
| You guys realize that you are replying to a zombie thread from last year that was resuscitated by an incomplete spam post in overwrought Spanish about hair products? |
