DC Public and Public Charter Schools
if you had ever dealt with gangs you would realize that this is not funny at all being jumped in is violent being jumped out can kill you, but to the credit of almost all gangs and crews, you can make the request you and your flippancy can go somewhere else MS 13 is at Wilson on the 13th of every month they claim the day as their own and push up against the 18th Street kids and before you tell me that THEY do not operate in DC either, so cannot possibly be at Wilson, look it up on Wikipedia or if you happen to know a Spanish teacher well, ask them if you happen to know Hispanic parents well, ask them school is so segregated I am sure if you are actually a Wilson parent whose kid is in the bubble you know neither well enough to get them to confide in you... Trust me. Trust others. We know, and you do not, because you and your kids are in the bubble. Lucky you. |
Latin (Uruguayan) mom with two girls at Wilson. We do not know what you are talking about. I just enquired again with my girls (you know, you scared me...) , they looked at each other between puzzled and amused... Of course a lot of trouble makers and trouble seekers, but no gang activity as you described it. Plus it does not look like you know what you are talking about... "Spanish teacher", what do you mean? One of us, "Latinos", would never use that phrasing. Spain has nothing to do with what you are talking about. We are talking about gangs not even from Latin America, but from Central America. These are huge differences for us, no person with awareness of the facts you claim you know about would have used a reference to a "Spanish teacher". Or even to Latin America... You just sounds so odd to a Latin person outside of the bubble, you cannot even imagine how clear it is to us that you are a fake, a troll, a person with an agenda or a disturbed (non-Latin) person . |
NP here. How would you call a teacher who teaches Spanish? |
| A Spanish teacher is a Spanish teacher. Did you think PP meant ethnicity? I'm pretty sure PP meant subject matter. Glad your girls are OK. |
Yeah, but just because you are Spanish teacher doesn't mean you are Latino!!! At my school the teachers are white and black but teach Spanish. Surely the writer would have said ask a Latino teacher, you can be Latino and not teach Spanish right??? |

I believe that only one poster has suggested the presence of MS-13 and the 18th Street Gang at Wilson. This person had this to say about it:
"(We only found this out by talking to Hispanic parents who had kids at Wilson or who decided not to go - we repeatedly asked Anglo parents and they all said no gangs at Wilson - and I think they just didn't know)" So, by this poster's own admission, she has no firsthand experience at Wilson, did not send her kids there, and has only heard about these gangs from other families, some of whom also lacked firsthand experience. It is impossible to prove a negative so I don't feel comfortable saying these gangs don't exist at Wilson. But, I do feel pretty safe in saying that if they are there, they are among the least effective gangs on earth. I can't think of a single gang-related crime that has taken place at the school. The topic of this thread involved a Hispanic kid and many people leaped to the conclusion that it involved MS-13, but I have seen no evidence of that. But, assuming it was, it is one incident for as long as I have known about Wilson. That is the the sort of record normally established by blood-thirsty gangs. |
I'm flippant about it because I find it laughable that MS13 is materially active at Wilson. They simply aren't. |
He/she did not mean anything meaningful. He/she does not know the Spanish teacher roaster at Wilson (only one teacher is of Latin/Spanish descent ) , or the fact that Spanish at Wilson is a not for native Spanish speakers. So a Spanish teacher has no advantage on, let's say a Math teacher, in being aware of the gang situation. If instead he/she made reference to the "Spanish teachers" because they know the Spanish language and can get what students say to each other when "gang speaking" in Spanish in the corridors , then, again, the reference is out of context because several non-Spanish language teachers at Wilson are of Latin/Spanish descent and bilingual (Ms Reyes - math; Mr Pineda - Science; Ms Ramos - English) . So, again, it does not make sense to refer to "Spanish teachers". The reference to "Spanish teachers" means that the writer has no clue of the Wilson environment. The reference to Wikipedia is naive too, and reflects what he/she has just been reading about MS13, and most likely the only thing he/she knows about this phenomenon. This person is writing on this thread because he/she is either pursuing an agenda, or is a disturbed person. Disregard his messages. Latin-US Wilson family. |
Mara Salvatrucha claims it as their day and openly pushes up on 18th Street And before you say 18th Street does not operate in DC and therefore cannot be at Wilson, look it up or if you have any contact with those outside the bubble who are Hispanic, ask them although most Hispanics inside the bubble probably know as well... but maybe not |
Good that this Idiot has now learned his lesson and now says "Hispanic" instead of "Spanish". |
Yes, but he still cannot hide his Wikipedia knowledge of the issue. To try to sound a bit more sophisticated and credible, he is opening his message with the first two words in Wikipedia under MS-13. |

Again, it doesn't affect your kids, so it doesn't matter. It doesn't even affect Latinos who are in all Honors/AP classes, although some of them are aware of it. They say they feel safe also. And I have had more than one Wilson kid confirm the presence of both gangs. Not saying they gang bang at Wilson. And yes, some teachers could also confirm this. If you truly want to know, set someone who writes for the Beacon on this, but that would not be safe. And denial is perfectly ok. Not ok for a potential outside the bubble very small Latina, who would not make it into honors and AP classes, and I have one child like that. Not doing it. We can agree to disagree. But I am relying on Wilson kids as well - they just aren't my kids.
Translation: if somebody calls you out of the blue claiming to be a long lost cousin you have not seen in 10 years, and claims that he had an accident and needs you to wire $2000 so the "victim" does not call the police, just hang up (BTW, this type of scam has been going around for a long time, in all areas and targeting all kinds of people - reading the news sometimes is useful). |
This is America, pal. Speak (and write) English, dammit. |
| What kind of a bloody idiot are you, PP, that you are threatened by someone writing in a foreign language?? People are multi-lingual in the rest of the world, so catch up! BTW I am American born, well educated, well traveled and tri-lingual. |
