Received letter today

Good luck to everyone.

Welcome to you, too! I'll just go ahead and do a preemptive welcome to the rest of the Norwood accepts so I don't clutter up the thread too much!

I was part of that earlier thread where some people were claiming a 99% WPPSI score might be a negative. I thought it was horseshit then, and I think it's horseshit now. Other people who seemed thoughtful and intelligent disagreed with me, so I give them some credit, but I still think it's not a negative.

FWIW, we were told outright by one AD that it was a negative to be too far above 99%. DC had a 99.8 WPPSI (and yes, 99.8 is much higher than 99% because of how it's normed) and that was definitely a negative. I assume that if one AD told us that, it is also true for other schools as well.

FWIW, our DD scored a 99.9%ile on her WPPSI and we just received an acceptance to Beauvoir today. So i.e not automatically a negative admissions factor. Again show that WPPSI is only one part of the admissions process. The acceptance letter stated that they enjoyed meeting or DD on her playdate at Beauvoir.

Congratulations! Does your DD come from a feeder school ie: NCRC, St. Johns, etc..?

What are the feeder schools for Beauvoir, GDS, Sidwell? Do we even have a chance?

NCRC, Little Folks, St. John's.

Well, what are your chances if your kids do not attend one of these feeder schools?

A separate Norwood mom here also saying "welcome" to those who were offered admission (although not presuming you will necessarily accept). Norwood is a very special school.

....and clearly has a lot of mommies that are "on" dcum. Take note and be cautious.

Thanks, no DD is not coming from a feeder schools but rather a small unknown school (infant daycare through K).

Still possible, as our DD is not from a feeder school and was accepted today to Beauvoir.

Anonymous wrote:99% no FA is not a shoe in. We had 99% scores last year, applied to Beauvoir and Sidwell. Rejected from both. We are high income/no FA. Child is bright, kind, and had great recs. Go figure. This year, we are waiting for results. Somewhat different mix of schools.

Sorry to hear that, Ididn't realize Sidwell already sent out their letters. GL with the other schools. Was this for Pre-K or K?

Regarding the controversy on whether a 99% WPPSI score is a positive or a negative and whether private schools are prepared to teach to these children, I have two DC at a Big 3 and my third DC was just accepted. The first DC scored 99.9%, the second scored 99.7% and the third 99%. The teacher of our oldest told us that he is "right in the middle of the pack" of his class. Based on my observations of his classmates, this sounds about right.

You still can get in! I know many people whose children did not come from feeder schools.
