Private & Independent Schools

Someone here on DCUM reminded me of this adage last week: It's the student, not the school.
12:43 Those rejections were blessings in that they saved you tens of thousands of dollars. That said, might you have pursued swimming, JHU, Mandarin and piano etc. if he'd gone to Beauvoir or Sidwell since they're extracurriculars? |
Also, just to add, unless you're caught up in the hype of the prestige, the message that a "Big 3" exists, is BS. |

"It's the student, not the school"
Point made. You got it! Take it one step further, "The school is no substitute for a nurturing and stimulating home" |
Frankly, I don't understand the family which feels the need to shove a 2nd grader into pre-algebra, Mandarin, piano, Spanish, and swimming lessons. |
| 45 % of his classmates are immigrants from Asia at his public school in Rockville, MD. Over half his swimming peers at RMSC are of Asiatic background. When he returns from elementary school I'll ask him why he wants to learn Mandarin and study Math? |
Is there any time in the day to ask him? |
As long as the child shows an interest, & is not overwhelmed, what's the problem? Stop being a troll... |
| Jealous, jealous, jealous! They're just mad because their kid can't read!!! |
| Why such a low-brow attitude when it comes to children who excel early? Some children need far more than classroom games, math manipulatives, and Mrs. Simpson's to keep them stimulated. |
The child's IQ is 146! He is not being shoved into anything. BTW I am not the parent of this child. I just can't stand when people say we are pushing are kids, when they are really pulling us. |
OUR KIDS I had to fix that before the troll came back! lol |
I am not the pp but just wondering when does your child just play and be a kid? Even smart kids need to play and just be silly! If they can't do that as a kid, when will they ever get to be a kid and play in the mud and sand and use their imaginiation? |
| Everyday. He plays instead of watching TV. He has no complaints. |
850 K salary? Ridiculous. |
| Oh grow up. This is DC, not the boondocks. 850K is not an uncommon salary for a law firm partner or lobbyist, and the city is full of them. |
