SCHOOL OR NOT WE NEED TO KNOW NOW. Those idiots are so slow. I need to know whether or not to call the babysitter, go to work, set the alarm...

Yes, me too.

Wouldn't they have already called it if the decision was contingent on the busses running?

Oops. There should be a "that" after the word "bus" in 20:49. Wouldn't want any comments about stupid teachers.

Fair enough, but as a DC teacher you know that it's not about you/us. Especially in an election year.

Many middle schools and high schools depend on public buses.

Several hip, young teachers in our school live in Petworth and Columbia Heights and take a bus that will not be in service tomorrow because it can't get down the side streets.

I just got a call from my child's school about a very very important person visiting the school and incoming us about security and a street closure.

According to DCUM Obama is coming to Powell tomorrow. So, school has to be open, right? Less than 4 inches!!

One would think so. The fact that they haven't makes me wonder about their competence.

The text from 91990 came at 9:30 pm yesterday. I just got a tweet saying they were still trying to make a decision. WTH?

so if school is open and kid's cannot get there due to street/weather conditions, will the absences be unexcused?

Junk... I think of myself as a hip and young teacher but I live in SW and drive. Guess I am neither... Hip nor young. Stink!

Yeah, gotta be stealthy on an anonymous forum, huh? Emma Brown tweeted earlier this evening that Obama is going to Powell.

It would be absolutely a poor decision to close streets etc due to a visit from Obama, you can forget about anyone trying to get to work if they have to travel near and around that area. A very poor call indeed, do you know how much disruption a visit like this causes to traffic on a normal day?
