Up 16th Street, right on Upshur, go 2 blocks. Upshur is in poor, poor shape. Good luck with that drive, Secret Service. |
Would DCPS seriously try and bring in all the kids and teachers - without access to Metrobus - just to be able to keep a date with Obama and one school? If metro wasn't an issue - fine - but I'm assuming that the people who actually have to put their drivers and vehicles on the roads know what is safe and what is not and they have decided not to drive the routes. |
POTUS can get through a few inches of icy unplowed Streets! |
Sure, but can the students and teachers. |
Another teacher here, same for me. I sorta feel like school will be open, but we'll see. This is my first time browsing these forums, and I have to say, the level of anger for these snow days is amazes me. Look, it's a snowy winter. I understand that it must create huge problems for working families, and I can sympathize, but what can you do? Life is WAY too short to get angry over the weather. You shouldn't be caught off guard by a snow day - it happens, and for the foreseeable future, it's always going to happen. Plan on about five snow days a year, and if there are less, consider it a bonus. Besides, nobody wants school to be in session more than DCPS. The CAS is coming up, and you better believe that factors into their decision. Not that we have any say in the matter, but teachers aren't getting a "day off," we're just postponing the end of the school year and saying goodbye to our precious few professional development days and/or records days. Most people don't want snow days, and you should vent about your problems if it makes you feel better (I mean that sincerely), but getting angry about it and threatening "this is the last straw, DCPS!" is just a little silly. I don't march on capitol hill when it's rainy. Just try to make the most of it ![]() |
I sincerely hope not. And I hope POTUS would be well informed enough himself to understand that. |
I can get to work tomorrow, walking or driving, but can my students? |
I agree with you, but I'm in the same boat about Metrobus. How are we going to get there? I'm not going to walk from Glover Park to Columbia Heights. |
+100 |
For the record, Charters close too. Equal opportunity venting :/ |
I don't think people are upset with DCPS, I think the anger is at WMTA. Where is Muriel now? |
Nope, I'm upset with DCPS......for taking a million years to make a decision that should be made by now. What new information are they waiting for? |
That I do agree with, it's not the decision but the LATE CALLS! ![]() |
I think it has something to do with the Fed not calling it yet (if they close, DCPS will close), and not wanting to cancel the Obama trip. Sort of sad, but what else could it be? |
I'm going to assume they will be OPEN since no announcement by now. They had all the weather and WMATA info hours ago... |
