If the snow doesn't, too early to tell!!!

If schools are closed and Fed is open, that may just send me over the edge. It's hard enough to balance being a working parent with everything else going on - all these unexpected absences are pushing me to the brink.

It's an unusual year, but is' not like it happens all the time.

Who is going to get in early and get school ready? The custodians and food staff, many of them don't live in DC? Will the school be warm, safe, and ready to learn?

Telework!

Many people don't have this option. You can't really telework when you are a nurse in a hospital.

I can sometimes telework, but many times I need to be physically present. I also have a 2 and 4 year old, which makes the possibility of working from home almost impossible. Last minute care for children these ages is very expensive. I'm in tears trying to figure out how to deal with yet another shortened work week - was up most of the night last night getting today's work done, and looking like it may be the same for tomorrow. Have many other issues going on right now including a move, divorce, health problems with one kid. Sorry, just exhausted and venting. I don't expect sympathy, and know many of you are in the same boat.

Two-hour delay

All these closures really stink for hourly employees and service jobs... Or or two snow days spread out through winter is doable. These multiple day closures are tough.

I'll offer some sympathy, even though you didn't ask. The snow days have suited my family very well, since my kid is recovering from an accident and benefits from the extra rest and time to spread out homework assignments. Fortunately, my work is flexible and my professional responsibilities are light. But I hear you about cumulative stressors. Hope things get easier for you soon!

The custodian is currently clearing the sidewalks at the DCPS across the street, so I should hope this is a good sign that they plan to open tomorrow.

I am teleworking with my 5 and 8 year old jumping around. they spent over an hour outside playing in the yard but now are inside. I REALLY hope school is open tomorrow, even if I have to walk there on my knees carrying my kids on my back!.

I really hope we do, but I am not counting on it. I am a teacher so thankfully I don't have childcare issues, but contrary to popular belief, snow days are hard on us, too. I feel like we haven't gotten any momentum behind anything we are learning since winter break. All this time off can really be a killer.

And I'll give you sympathy and an e-hug.

Go into a room, cry your eyes out, then regroup and get back to trouble shooting your problems.

We ALL have them.

But they don't last forever.
