bin laden is dead

This is pathetic. Bin Laden, the mastermind of the worst terrorist attacks against innocent Americans, and the leader of Al Qaeda, is dead, and the first thing you weanies think of is "oh, no, they might retaliate! I'm scared to death!!!!" What, do you propose that we should not have killed that monster?

I'm just glad that there are men and women of character out there in our military who will defend America without fear and celebrate our victories.

Chill the hell out. Signed, nervous military spouse (is that better?).

Really? I thought it was not well thought out.

Careful how you celebrate there, at least in public. This is a moment for diplomatic behavior in the service of longer-term goals.

Don't be an idiot.

This is ridiculous. I don't see post that suggested that he should not have been killed but rather posts have said that there may be a higher risk of terrorist attacks in retaliation. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, it's obvious that's a risk.

They're celebrating outside the WH? It's freakin' past midnight on a Sunday night. They must be thinking the troops will be on their way home.

Other than the "I gave the order..." talk I didn't find anything that was missing. It wasn't overly joyous, but relayed a positive message nonetheless.

I agree.

Capturing him alive might have been better from a PR point of view. I expect this was Plan A, but circumstances probably necessitated Plan B.

No, the dead-or-alive capture needed to happen. It's just important to remember that this can be the sort of thing that spurs attacks, and, for those inclined to act like victorious football fans tonight, that there's a significant international public relations front in this war. It's just dumb to give potential enemies ammunition.

A woman was apparently killed during the raid because one of the men used her as a human shield. Would love to know which coward that was. Sick.

Exactly this. The Pakistanis were very likely giving this man haven.

Bringing him in alive would have been a PR nightmare.

I just hope they got his birth certificate.

Long form death certificate.

Have they indicated whether it was a military or CIA operation?
