He did. What PPs above are talking about is called conspiracy theory.

ABC News broke the story saying he was killed 3 days ago.

But Obama said that the operation took place today. Didn't he?

Oh ABC said that? Oh, ok... Why didn't you say it sooner? Then it MUST be true!

Regardless if it was today or 3 days ago, the PPs I'm referring to are saying he was killed thanks to Bill Clinton or Bush.

Obama said:

"Today, at my direction, the United States carried out that operation... they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body."

I don't think anyone said it was thanks to Clinton or Bush. I think the Military was thanked and that he has been a wanted man since Clinton.

That is what he said but it isn't what was being reported earlier. Earlier it was reported that it was several days ago and that DNA confirmed it.

I bet we won't see any dated tapes or newspapers held up with today's date on them. That was the M.O. when Saddam was captured. It was believed by many (by the *most* liberals I know) he was captured long before it the news broke and that the information was sat upon.

Can't say I'm sad about this. However, I'm scared to death living in DC, about retaliation. Makes me want to move west.

I kind of wish that the soldiers responsible for the death of Bin Laden recieved more recognition tonight.. Obama's speech had a lot of "I instructed" and "I directed" but not a whole lot of "they did great and we appreciate them".. Obama could have done his speech a LOT better.

I feel exactly the same way... I was trying to go to sleep, but I can't. Not that I think something will happen tonight, but I have a feeling something bad is about to happen... I wanna move west and hide in a cave. Or a mansion.

I really wouldn't worry about it here. You've got the Arab Awakening that's occupying the minds of most Muslims, here and abroad. There's real hope for a better future for them. Bin Laden and his ways are old news. Yes, there may be a few crazies. But we've already had them over the years and we've neutralized them before they've hurt anyone.

If this in fact happened today, I think taking in consideration the amount of time they had to put together this speech, they actually did a great job. I also do feel like the soldiers should get more recognition, but I still think they will.

al-Qaeda's make-up of autonomous cells prevent it from being devastated by something like this. Retaliation is a very real threat and I am so scared for our troops in Afghanistan and for us in major American cities. I see all these people at the White House on CNN and feel like it's dangerous to be there right now. Am I crazy for thinking this?

Well, what they're doing is not responsible, though I expect the danger will come later. I don't think we should be photographed chanting and celebrating because that makes it hard to buy us as good guys. This kind of news needs to be greeted with a little quiet relief, some sober reflection on the ugliness of past events, and a gritty determination to deal with whatever comes next in a fight that's far from over. I wish the president had reminded us all to not act in a way that could be misconstrued as bloodthirsty or even boob-ish.

I totally agree.

I thought the speech was well written. I'm nervous about what tomorrow will bring.

*Obama looks up from furiously writing at his desk* "Not now Donald, the grownups are working..."
