I can't wade through seven more pages to see if anyone else has addressed this, but these kids have been living under the shadow of 9/11 and bin laden since they were old enough to be aware of the workings of the world. It makes perfect sense that this is a big deal to them. I think it's great -- and it's sad how many people say we should act more subdued out of fear of retaliation. Is that the kind of world we are willing to accept? Really?

I was the original +1 poster. I didn't say we should not celebrate out of fear of retaliation. I said we shouldn't celebrate our execution of someone else who - although he clearly had to go and I am glad we did it - was still a human being. We should be sad or at least reflective when we kill someone - no matter how necessary. If we treat it like winning a ballgame, then we are just as bad as they are, honestly.

I work close to the White House and was right there on 9/11; I have many business colleagues and friends in NY and my company is headquartered there; and I have friends who either lost someone on 9/11 or had someone in the towers who managed to get out just in time. I'm not trying to be PC for the sake of being PC. I still remember that day all too well, and what I knew would follow. I felt a little dread and sadness when I heard we launched attacks in Aghanistan that autumn, and I felt the same dread last night. In both cases what we did was absolutely necessary, but that doesn't mean I feel great about the fact that we have to do it. I praise everyone who serves our country, by the way. Many of them (some are my relatives) feel the same dread but do it anyway because they know it is necessary. Death is never pretty up close.

Maybe I'm just completely out of line here but, bear with me, dems: If the Bush/Cheney Admin were claiming that they had killed OBL with the same set of facts, would we really believe that this was really Osama that they had "wrapped in a sheet and shoved into the sea and that's that, thank you and goodbye?" I'm pretty sure I'd never buy it.

I know, I know I am completely nuts. I am not a birther or grader. I am an Obama fangirl. But LOOK: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/science/03dna.html?smid=tw-nytimesscience&seid=auto Osama does not even have a full brother or sister from whom to get this DNA. Only half brothers and sisters. This feels like the Sally- Hemmings-is Jefferson's-daughter-level of proof. The science isn't there...

Well. Which of you placed bets back on 9/11/01 to win the office "dead Osama pool" by guessing May 2, 2011--Black President ? No one? You could have broken Vegas.

Someone must be suffering from withdrawal after the Lululemon thread faded from view.

What has anyone heard about an Osama Bin Laden "death tape" to be released now?

Mark Twain.

+1

It's also very sobering. It would be nice if the WH crowd were ushering in some remembrance of how we felt and acted as one back then, but it sounds (according to NBC) like a bunch of people in their early 20s. I had hope until I heard they were singing "We Are the Champions."

It also turns out to be a fake Mark Twain quote. The quote is from Clarence Darrow, but conservatives can't go around quoting ACLU lawyers who defend evolution. So they must attach the sentiment to an acceptable historical figure.

In times past, faking history like this was what the Communists did. What gives?
