Gabriella Giffords Assasinated...

I think anyone who kills another human being is mentally ill, regardless of what name you give him/her -- terrorist, lone wolf, etc.

Question: When will we get on of these about Obama? http://newsbusters.org/node/11977

Answer: NEVER...Conservatives are much better people than Liberals.

I guess I missed the part where President Obama attempted to assassinate Gabriella Giffords.

Hey, sharp eyes, very good! I view our president as a highly intelligent, emotionally stable person who's devoted to his family and the well-being of others, don't you? The point is that there are people spewing extreme views in both parties. Let's not try to act as if the Democrats and liberals "are above all that."

Bill Ayers is not a politician. He is not building a PAC to fund candidates, and he is not considering a run for the Presidency. He is not in charge of a party or movement that is currently influencing the American political scene. If your point is that left wing people are capable of violence, sure. I think we all knew that.

But the issue at hand is that a current, active political movement is using language of hatred and violence in building its party. It is having an effect on people. It was serious enough that it had Giffords on camera, months ago, worried for her safety. Someone smashed in the door of her office months ago after the health care vote.

Sarah Palin has been using hunting metaphors all the damn time. It's not just the crosshairs graphic that she sheepishly took down yesterday. She says things like "Don't react. Reload". The tea party candidate who ran against Giffords did a fundraiser with this advertisement: "Get on Target for Victory in November Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly".

And it's not like these things are isolated. The hatred that came from the first Tea Party rally on the mall, the assaults on liberal protestors, etc. got out of hand in the last election cycle.

So if you want to deny what your movement is doing and hide behind the red herring of Bill Ayers, a washout who committed a crime 40 years ago, is just plain irresponsible. I don't expect you to put Ollie North in jail for selling missiles to Iran. And I wouldn't act like a dumbass and ignore what's going on in my own party until Ollie North was finally brought to justice. Stop pointing fingers. Take responsibility for what your movement is doing today, here and now.

Let us not forget the jackasses that were wearing their guns in holsters to the "town hall brawls" to show their support of 'open carry' laws. Yeah, that was awesome guys. Nobody could have seen this coming.

It's important for Conservatives to know their place in America. When liberals are terrorists like Bill Ayers and Bernandine Dorn and they aren't mentally ill but dedicated radical liberals.....they get to be friends of the President ,fundraisers and college professors. When crazy schitzo's go nuts and terrorize...any link to conservatives will be made and they are given the death penalty. When a play is performed about assassinating Bush in NY, it is called "art" and protected free speech with minimal press coverage. Thank God for the new media that keeps track of all the liberal hypocracy.

You are high on panty fumes again. Why don't you go over on eBay and bid on some used undies?

That's why Obama gets 30 death threats a day, 4x the level of previous presidents.

shooter was a registered democrat, and earlier registered as an independent.

though i doubt he targeted Giffords because she was too moderate, but because he was crazy.

Can you point me to a link? I could not google this.

I did see articles saying Homeland Security is trying to find out whether he was part of American Renaissance, a hate group that promotes the tea party. Apparently the leaked memo was broken by Fox. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/breaking-news/arizona-shooting-suspect-may-be-linked-to-anti-semitic-group/story-e6frf7jx-1225984713213 http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/01/09/american-renaissance-denies-dhs-charges-any-affiliation-shooter

I do agree that the guy is crazy, though. Wonder who the 50 yr old second person is and whether he was pulling this guy's strings.

Was never a registered democrat. Pima County registrar is quoted here that he was an independent. So party registration doesn't tell us whether he leaned left or right.

News flash - he may not have leaned either way!

Could he not have simply seen an opportunity to go after a 'famous' person? The 'conclusions' this thread has jumped to are shocking, given the educational superiority of the Greater Washington DC area... we have surely studied science - tested a hypothesis lately? Or logic? And shame on Obama for jumping on this and "concluding" that is was an act spurred on by political vitriol. Assume much Mr. President?

And do we forget that Griffords is pro-2nd amendment?

They cleared the older guy and just filed federal charges against Loughner.

And hey, can someone make that very nice Sheriff man in AZ go lie down and take a nap. He is becoming understandably overwrought.

You either have not read what he posted on youtube and myspace, or you are sticking your head in the sand. He has taken positions on a number of things, from gold currency to abortion to immigration, to government in general. No one doubts that he is disturbed. But for you to pretend that politics did not play a role is silly. His words speak for themselves. He called himself a terrorist.

I've already said that I didn't think this was a politically-motivated attack, but simply the act of a mentally-disturbed person. But, conservative positions held by Giffords are irrelevant. Unless you slept through the last election, you should be well aware that the Tea Party zealots challenged even extremely conservative Republicans -- e.g. Bennett in Utah. They would have little interest in a conservative Democrat (who they would probably consider a closeted communist). Giffords was, of course, opposed in the last election by a Tea Party-backed candidate. That candidate ran an ad saying "Get on Target for Victory in November. Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly". This mixing of guns, shooting metaphors, and politics -- something that has been done by both Republicans and Democrats -- is troubling and dangerous. Being conservative does not isolate you from it.
