THIS is the rationale for killing a member of congress, in the killer's own words:
"The majority of citizens in the united states of America have never read the united states of America's constitution. You don't have to accept the federalist laws," the video's titles say. "In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No! I won't trust in god!" |
It's a "dog whistle" metaphor. Palin and her "ilk" know perfectly well that they have the power to lure the crazies out to do their dirty work. Of course there will be no direct link but I don't think it is a stretch to say that the crazy rhetoric of this last political cycle has created a fertile atmosphere for such an act. |
I'm no Palin fan, but if an Obama supporter were to commit a crime, would you say that he was in some way responsible? |
I really find it absurd to mention the two in the same breath. You have no such hate mongering from his constituents. So. I can't really even answer that sort of hypothetical. |
#1, why do you think this clearly mentally ill individual has anything to do with Sarah Palin?
#2, the map was silly. #3, why the obsession with Sarah Palin? I'll never understand it. #4, the anti-Bush rhetoric was incredibly violent. don't remember many complaining about it. |
Also, only 2 "targets" on the Palin map remain in office. I just don't think this kind of "crazy" exists in a vacuum. But I will stop rabbit posting here on this. We need to have more facts. |
Oh. Okay. If you say so. |
reports coming out now that the shooter was a left-wing radical. Favorite video was the flag burning, liked the Communist Manifesto, etc. not exactly a tea-party follower, sorry. |
Not so fast there. He was anti-immigrant, pro-gun, complained about the government taking over property rights, and illiteracy in his community. Read Animal Farm. Ranted about currencies not backed by gold and silver. So don't jump the gun. We don't know what he is, except crazy. |
Here is an interesting opinion from the Sheriff:
“The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, I think Arizona has become sort of the capital, we have beome the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry,” he said. “There’s reason to believe that this individual might have a mental issue, and I think that people who are unbalanced might be especially susceptible to vitriol.” He's basically saying that political vitrol may have swayed this unbalanced individual to commit these acts. This is, if true, a heck of an indictment of the politicians who capitalize on hate. |
Which "man of the cloth" shouted "G . . D . . America!" to his parishioners? |
He's probably schizophrenic, and it's not well-managed. That's what's really sad to me -- this tragedy likely could have been prevented. |
I love how right wingers use selective quotation to achieve their purpose. Here is the list of books from his MySpace page:
Wow, you conveniently left out how he reads Ayn Rand. We the Living is not exactly left wing literature. |
DailyKos post:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/25/1204/74882/511/541568 "Who to primary? Well, I'd argue that we can narrow the ***target list*** by looking at those Democrats who sold out the Constitution last week. I've bolded members of the Blue Dogs for added emphasis." "Not all of these people will get or even deserve primaries, but this vote certainly ***puts a bulls eye on their district.*** " omg, he used "target" and "bulls eye" when talking about political targets!!! he must be inciting violence! |
You are justifying Sarah Palin's graphic with crosshairs on politicians by comparing it to a post from a blogger? Way to go. |
