| Waymo and such autonomous vehicles will put an end to this behavior before too long. |
Social cred? Lololo. You're damn right I would vote for this again. People don't deserve to be incarcerated for MJ use. Suck on that. |
The law already says that smoking weed in public is punishable by a fine of $1000 plus 60 days in jail, and I'm not sure that increasing the fine to $5000 would accomplish that much. I agree that it's an enforcement issue. To all the people blaming Democrats, why isn't Trump's National Guard doing anything on this? |
The issue is the people that dangerously drive under the influence of weed who should be incarcerated. But obviously you are too ignorant to comprehend that. So suck on THAT. |
DP. Can we focus on the people driving under the influence of self-importance? They are far more hazardous on the road than pot heads. I don't care if you're the assistant to the deputy assistant undersecretary of whatever. Does not matter. |
I’m not sure how many times I can say it. I’m tolerant of a lot of things. I’ve lived in DC for decades partly because I love this city. But what I’m obviously not tolerant of are loser reckless pot-smoking drivers that put my life and my kids lives at risk as they recklessly drive through my neighborhood at all hours of the day and night. Is that really so difficult to understand? And the attitude that I’m the bad guy or that intolerance for this nonsense makes me a racist is one of the reasons this city is going to sh*t. |
This is OP. A different poster already responded but you are exactly the reason this city has really started to suck. Do you honestly believe what you are saying? So if a pot smoking loser rammed into you or a loved one killing or injuring them should they go to jail in your mind? Honest question. You are literally ok with this entire city smelling like weed day and night and seeing drivers everywhere ( mostly gig drivers) clearly under the influence? Would you be ok if I had four gin and tonics before I and started driving an uber around? Or while I’m in my way to pick up my kids from school? Let me guess - you’re going to dig in because you assume I’m not a person of color and my desire to end this bulksh*t makes me a racist, right? But I’m the intolerant one, right? |
All of these frequent and “reckless” acts must be resulting in some sort of measurable increase in accidents, right? Do you have any examples of this recent uptick in accidents in your neighborhood? Or do you just have a gut feeling? |
There you go. At it already. How about you spend thirty seconds googling it and you’ll have your answer. Hint. The answer is yes. It’s not rocket science. Stoned out zombies operating motor vehicles + more stoned out zombies than ever before after pot became legal + gig economy where these otherwise unemployable losers can find employment dropping off just enough door dash orders so they have just enough money to buy more pot = steady increase in car related accidents and fatalities in DC for the past several years. |
They are sometimes the same people. My main complaint with door dasher types is that they’ll just stop their car in the middle of the road (busy ones like Glebe or Wilson) to grab a delivery. They think the rules of the road don’t apply to them. Cops do nothing. It’s dangerous. If someone ran on a platform of stopping that they’d have my vote. |
DP: DC records dozens of crashes every day that merit a police report. We can only speculate how many crashes occur that don't end up in an police metric. Judging by the number of car parts I see laying around in the mornings on some streets, it has to be substantial. The one saving grace of weed vs alcohol is that the stoned driver is probably going a lot slower than your typical drunk driver. That's probably why the roads are littered with hub caps and bumpers instead of body bags. |
+1 Selfish disregard of the kinds of social norms which tend to protect others/provide societal benefit with far greater effect than the minor inconvenience caused to those responsible for adherence certainly is something deserving of dissuasion via more rigorous enforcement. That has to be without targeting of specific populations, though (except the qualifying population of violators, themselves). The notion applies to parking in travel lanes, blowing through stop signs and cheating on taxes in equal measure. |
DP. I don't think that's what PP meant, not any Dems voting to relax pot laws. If you hit a car, while high, you should be appropriately charged. But, guess what? My FIL was killed by a young woman driving while texting, and the law didn't hold her legally accountable. She wasn't charged or jailed. What do you say to that? Phones have never been illegal. (Fortunately, the law allows for civil suits, and she paid for her crime.) |
Civil suits don't always result in payment to the victims. Guilty party may not be insured and usually uninsured ones also don't have any assets. Ask me how I know. Lawyers are reluctant to take such cases and spend minimum energy when there is no money to collect or too little. Given the topic discussed, that deals with lower SES population doing these jobs for a living and also driving under the pot influence, it's more likely that there will be nothing to collect to compensate for the injuries or worse. I know of a case, however, where someone under the pot influence killed 2 passengers of another car in a terrible crash and was sent to prison for manslaughter. This was many years ago and in another state. |
| Don’t order drinks on door dash. They let the drivers fill your cups. It’s hot af outside and people are thirsty. You’ve been warned. |
