This is OP. A different poster already responded but you are exactly the reason this city has really started to suck. Do you honestly believe what you are saying?  So if a pot smoking loser rammed into you or a loved one killing or injuring them should they go to jail in your mind?  Honest question. You are literally ok with this entire city smelling like weed day and night and seeing drivers everywhere ( mostly gig drivers) clearly under the influence? Would you be ok if I had four gin and tonics before I and started driving an uber around? Or while I’m in my way to pick up my kids from school? Let me guess - you’re going to dig in because you assume I’m not a person of color and my desire to end this bulksh*t makes me a racist, right?  But I’m the intolerant one, right? [/quote]

DP. I don't think that's what PP meant, not any Dems voting to relax pot laws.

If you hit a car, while high, you should be appropriately charged. But, guess what? My FIL was killed by a young woman driving while texting, and the law didn't hold her legally accountable. She wasn't charged or jailed. What do you say to that? Phones have never been illegal.

Civil suits don't always result in payment to the victims.  Guilty party may not be insured and usually uninsured ones also don't have any assets.  Ask me how I know. Lawyers are reluctant to take such cases and spend minimum energy when there is no money to collect or too little.  Given the topic discussed, that deals with lower SES population doing these jobs for a living and also driving under the pot influence, it's more likely that there will be nothing to collect to compensate for the injuries or worse.

I know of a case, however, where someone under the pot influence killed 2 passengers of another car in a terrible crash and was sent to prison for manslaughter. This was many years ago and in another state. [/quote]
