Very sorry. Is this the year that high stats kids get shut out of ED or something?

Hearing undersubscribed majors got in.

Well that would be a logical goal, wouldn't it? I like those undersubscribed departments.

UCLA easier to get in than Michigan? You are an idiot. Michigan superior? You are, again, an idiot.

What's the point of deferring high stats? Shouldn't they be locking them in?

3.5 GPA for MCPS? Seems like there must be something we are missing?

115K total applications and 109K first-year applications.

What’s so special about Michigan? Like sure great school, but 100,000 for a good state school feels insane.

It’s very popular in affluent suburbs in major metro areas (Scarsdale, Wilmette, etc) where kids want “rah rah” culture with strong academics and reputation. Plus there a lot of legacies across the country whose kids apply. Additionally, it’s very sought for in-state students since it’s a great deal and the state of Michigan doesn’t have any big, private universities.

Does this not describe every state school ever?

None, it doesn’t. Michigan and Wisconsin took east and west coast Jewish kids when ivys and other state schools didn’t, so there is a century of history and culture of out of state students that most other schools didn’t have until recently.

Cal and UCLA enrolled African Americans in the 1930s (sadly, not so much anymore).

Public or private? What state?

DMV private, stem major in LSA

Michigan has a lot more direct admit majors so I could see this making a difference. It is not easy to transfer between schools from what we were told on the tour info session.

You can’t apply LSA and then assume you can transfer to engineering for example.

3.91 GPA, 1510 SAT, 11 AP 5s, In-state, president of key club. Child got flat out rejected from LSA today. We're currently distraught.
