They tried that one last time. Biden didn't run on the border, but there he was issuing more EO's about the border than anything else, they tried to get amnesty numerous times, and they tried to give H-1B's green cards numerous times amongst many other things.

I'm afraid ignoring it and hoping it will go away won't work this time.

We're going to need to see concrete actions. Rolling back sanctuary city laws, cooperation with federal agents (ICE) etc.

+1 And which Democrats have strongly criticized what happened at the border?

Nada!

In addition, there are plenty. In my area outside nova, there has been such a sharp increase as to make it’s almost 50% of a school, and very suddenly (already 100% of other schools). I welcome you. But we don’t need additional.
College grads are finding it difficult to move into a corporate office jobs. One of my coworkers at the music lesson spot is a recent grad. Instead of a job in her area, she’s teaching music (very much a side job, she’s very proficient at her instrument, but she could have done this without deeper education).

Because they are for lax immigration policies and mock working class American citizens.

What did she do? anyone?

Biden was president. Harris was not. Biden was the Chief Executive who signed off on executive orders that reversed many of the band-aid immigration/southern border orders that were in place to stem the flow of new arrivals. Harris was not. Harris never had the power to do anything substantive. Misplaced blame.

But Biden was unable to do anything to slow illegal border crossing because only Congress has the power to pass an immigration bill.

His hands were tied.

This is a bs excuse. There was plenty Biden could've done, like increasing border patrol and sending them back. I'm not talking about those who had TPS status. But those who claimed "asylum" when clearly they were just seeking better economic opportunities (which I can understand).

I voted for Biden because I loathe Trump with every fiber of my being. But, Biden did nothing about the illegal immigration issues. The videos and news stories of illegal immigrants being housed in hotels and given debit cards with cash in a time when Americans were having a hard time affording housing and groceries wasn't a good look on the Biden administration.

I loathe R TX Governor Abbott, but he played the Dems by busing those illegal immigrants to blue cities.

Dems are not savvy, nor do they know how to play the political game. I will continue to vote for a D POTUS because MAGA/Rs have completely FUBARd the R party, and they are full of racist POS, but Dems need to up their game and fight a bit dirtier, like Gavin Newsom, whom I also detest. But, notice his popularity has risen since he started to parody Trump, and taking redistricting to the CA voters (which won, yay) to fight against what TX was doing . He's learned to fight MAGA at their level, and that is what is going to win.

FFS, I hope Dems have learned something from this past year.

But a New York Times examination of Mr. Biden’s record found that he and his closest advisers repeatedly rebuffed recommendations that could have addressed the border crisis faster, and eased what became a potent issue for Mr. Trump as he sought to return to the White House and justify the aggressive tactics roiling American cities today.

Former Biden administration officials told The Times that Mr. Biden and his circle of close confidants — including Ron Klain, who was chief of staff during the president’s first two years, Mike Donilon, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and Anita Dunn — made two crucial errors.

First, they underestimated the scale of migration that was coming. Second, they failed to appreciate the political reaction to that migration — believing that stronger enforcement would alienate Latino and progressive voters, and also that a border surge would not be an important issue to most voters. Those calculations would later prove to be mistaken, with many voters, including Latinos, citing immigration as a reason for supporting Mr. Trump in 2024.

This is the crux of the issue. They cared more about re-election, party power, than what is right by the American people.

Two wrongs still don't make a right. All of the political momentum Biden gifted the GOP has quickly been pissed away by Trump's careless immigration crackdown.

disagree

many many swing voters are happy with the immigration crackdown.

mayorkas and Biden screwed the US voters. now we have Trump and his chaos.

Lol... and this explains why Trump, in the first year of his second term, is already as unpopular as Biden was in 2024. Think before posting such nonsense.

Trump can’t run again, so his popularity doesn’t matter. And congress popularity has been in the toilet for decades.

So you think the GOP will be able to pivot away from Trump in time to have a chance in the 2028 election? I will believe that when I see it. Based on what we experienced in the 2020 and 2024 elections, it's very, very difficult for the incumbent party to separate themselves from their very unpopular sitting POTUS in time to win an election.

We are operating on a new paradigm. Old customs and patterns are not reliable predictors.

Really??? 2020, unpopular unfit POTUS loses everything for their party, 2024 unpopular unfit POTUS loses everything for their party, 2028 even more unpopular and unfit POTUS somehow doesn't lose everything for their party?? Is this your new paradigm? I suppose there is a 1% chance you're correct.

Where have you been? The Dems woke up and kicked Biden and his carelessness out of their way. Biden won't be at DNC's convention in 2028. Trump will very likely be speaking at the RNC's convention in 2028. Big time advantage for the Dems or will the GOP be smart enough to kick Trump and his unhingedness out of their way??

Now, the courts did play a role, but the numbers don’t lie: the border was wide open and people flooded in…and voters not only noticed, but felt it in communities across the country.

I still can’t understand why Dems didn’t read the room and come up with a plan, or at the very least messaging. It’s like they decided to go all in to cater to a subset of voters without checking what they really wanted.

And now we are dealing with a big overreaction by voters and ultimately Trump.

FTR, I’m a Dem whose day job includes left-leaning advocacy (including immigration). Nobody should be surprised by any of this. Sure, the Admin’s efforts to destroy our democracy and the rule of law are shocking, but everything related to immigration could have been anticipated and handled better.

Fast forward to today: the issues have escalated to a new level with the Somalian fraud and the Admin’s response. I think this will shift the conversation to assimilation and self-sufficiency. Voters are watching, and while they don’t like seeing hardworking people tossed out of the country, they absolutely aren’t interested in tolerating fraud (or crime).

No clue why Dems can’t read the room and respond accordingly.

How dare those foreign fraudster steal our jobs frauding! I only want good white American fraudsters stealing our money, like Rick Scott!

Great Article with details on how Democrats lost in 2024 due to policy failures on immigration , pushed by progressives in the party.

Why Mr. Biden waited so long to effectively seal the border has become one of the defining questions of his presidency.
Some aides feared that closing the border would be overturned by the courts. Others said that principles mattered. “It was truly believed — deeply, by many, including the president — that that was not in keeping with our values,” said Ms. Jacobson, the former border czar.

Three weeks after closing the border, the president faced off against Mr. Trump in a debate at CNN’s Atlanta studios. Asked why voters should trust him to solve the crisis, Mr. Biden flubbed it.

“What I’ve done — since I’ve changed the law, what’s happened?” said Mr. Biden, who had not changed the law. “I’ve changed it in a way that now you’re in a situation where there are 40 percent fewer people coming across the border illegally.”

Mr. Biden went on: “I’m going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the … the total initiative relative to what we’re going to do with more Border Patrol and more asylum officers.”

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence,” Mr. Trump responded. “I don’t think he knows what he said either.”

Within a month, Mr. Biden left the race.

Biden never sealed the border. He flung it wide open and allowed millions of unknown foreigners to walk into the country.

And then Biden was removed from the Dem Party and we now have a clean slate with no Biden baggage. How is the process of removing the Trump stain from the GOP going? Have you reached step one yet? Are you just going to throw the towel in on 2028 and do nothing but watch Trump destroy GOP politician's chances going forward through 2028?

Not just dem Cities but sanctuary cities.

Dems won’t learn because there’s no consequence.

That’s not how it works.
The Democratic Party did all of that. Because they vouched for Biden. They lied for Biden.

As much as you blame gop for trumps actions the rest of us blame the Dems for Biden’s .

+1

why are they writing about ANYONE besides the fascist madman-in-chief????????????

Presumably any mainstream media sources do cover the awful deeds of the fascist madman and that's what I've observed. Otherwise, looking back to identify reasons a team, person, or entity lost in competition is the most logical thing to do in order to be more prepared in the future.

Looking back is pure folly, theatrics. The only way to look is forward. Nothing will ever be the same in our lifetimes and the NYT, if it was serious about reporting for the masses and not the party of one, would understand this. This should be evident to any thinking person…

You can’t move forward without examining the past. Otherwise you’ll repeat the mistakes. But it takes a certain level of mature observation and a willingness to swallow pride to do so.

There is no swallowing of pride here. Nothing will ever be the same again. The felon and the couch thumper claimed people were eating cats and dogs for political expediency. We have so many billionaires, who rigged the election. Our entire government is corrupt in just 10 months, the president's SIL is doing a hostile takeover of a media conglomerate. High schoolers are being deported by masked thugs, while literal nazis walk down Little Rock terrorizing the community.

Focus.

Dems haven't had a leader for the past nine years. Common goals and unification come from proper leadership at the top. Hopefully the Dem Party will be able to attract our next legitimate leader by 2028 and that leader will be given a fair chance at securing the nomination through the will of the people. If 2028 turns out to be a repeat of what we've seen in recent elections, it may be time for left leaning Americans to coalesce behind a new party that will become the left-wing of our two-party system. We won't be able to count on the GOP to get their poop together until at least 2032.
