NYT on How Biden Lost the Election due to Immigration Policy

Anonymous
It was so much more than this. It was Biden's age, the Dem Party process of having Kamala be his VP and then running v. Trump, it was about the state of the nation in terms of emotions post Obama and then after another turn with Biden - Trump is a lot of mortifying BS monstrosity but the guy can market a popsicle to an Eskimo He is a marketing genius that Kamala could not compete with in any universe.

It was immigration but I tie that to the state of the nation in general.

The anger, the hurt, the ambition to overthrow the status quo - all of it was turned to the advantage of any party other than the status quo party of the Dems. Biden certain did not help things along, he just worsened and made it easier for Trump to take another turn.

I don't even think it matters rehashing all this again and again. But I think it'll happen again with the unseating of Trump. Will be interesting to see who runs in a few years against GOP. Given the pendulum shifts radically left then right, will likely go radical left again, it's not the right way to shift but that's where this country is..

why are they writing about ANYONE besides the fascist madman-in-chief????????????

Presumably any mainstream media sources do cover the awful deeds of the fascist madman and that's what I've observed. Otherwise, looking back to identify reasons a team, person, or entity lost in competition is the most logical thing to do in order to be more prepared in the future.

Looking back is pure folly, theatrics. The only way to look is forward. Nothing will ever be the same in our lifetimes and the NYT, if it was serious about reporting for the masses and not the party of one, would understand this. This should be evident to any thinking person…

Agreed

And yet not a single democrat has changed and advocated for less immigration

Not a single One

Hundreds of thousands of layoffs and the party of labor keeps pushing for more h1bs. Some democrats want to expand h1bs

Why do people lie with impunity. Look at Gallego.

Also, 59% of Dems wanted a tighter border in the middle of the Biden presidency. Many Dems wanted easier pathways, and now Trump and Vance are snatching immigrants at their hearings! So, clearly MAGA was lying about what they wanted: no immigrants, unless they’re white or billionaires.

Doesn't sound like the DNC was listening, then. All I saw was "talk to the hand cuz the face ain't listening" from Alejandro Mayorkas and the administration

He sued Texas to prevent it from protecting it's own borders with Mexico and then did nothing to stop the continued onslaught from bordering Mexico. Not too mention the dead of night flights from central America into the U.S. to drop off illegal immigrants everywhere inside the U.S.

It was better than a Soviet Op against the U.S.

Now democrats are suddenly telling us the feds don't have supremacy in enforcing borders and removing illegal immigrants currently within our borders. But now everyone should forget the history of this. No.

It was rigged by Elon. The Dems didn't know if their contesting it would start a civil war, so they folded.

WHAT?!

And you folks wonder why the Texas Governor threw his hands up in frustration and began transporting illegal aliens to sanctuary cities? What is wrong with you people? Are you stupid?

Bringing in illegal aliens in night flights? You folks did this so quietly this is the first I hear of this!

In the meantime, working class Americans couldn't afford housing and couldn't afford medical care. We have a TRILLION DOLLAR deficit, and you idiots were determined to pour illegal aliens into the U.S. who needed housing, food, medical care, and education. You forced schools to deal with kids who had never attended school. You gave debit cards to these immigrants so they could buy food. You gave them free housing and free medical care. Of course, you used taxpayer dollars provided by American taxpayers who themselves couldn't afford housing, or food, or medical care.

What is this ridiculousness?

Great Article with details on how Democrats lost in 2024 due to policy failures on immigration , pushed by progressives in the party.

Why Mr. Biden waited so long to effectively seal the border has become one of the defining questions of his presidency.
Some aides feared that closing the border would be overturned by the courts. Others said that principles mattered. “It was truly believed — deeply, by many, including the president — that that was not in keeping with our values,” said Ms. Jacobson, the former border czar.

Three weeks after closing the border, the president faced off against Mr. Trump in a debate at CNN’s Atlanta studios. Asked why voters should trust him to solve the crisis, Mr. Biden flubbed it.

“What I’ve done — since I’ve changed the law, what’s happened?” said Mr. Biden, who had not changed the law. “I’ve changed it in a way that now you’re in a situation where there are 40 percent fewer people coming across the border illegally.”

Mr. Biden went on: “I’m going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the … the total initiative relative to what we’re going to do with more Border Patrol and more asylum officers.”

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence,” Mr. Trump responded. “I don’t think he knows what he said either.”

Within a month, Mr. Biden left the race.

Biden never sealed the border. He flung it wide open and allowed millions of unknown foreigners to walk into the country.

And then Biden was removed from the Dem Party and we now have a clean slate with no Biden baggage. How is the process of removing the Trump stain from the GOP going? Have you reached step one yet? Are you just going to throw the towel in on 2028 and do nothing but watch Trump destroy GOP politician's chances going forward through 2028?

You say that like its a bad thing.

The GOP needs to be destroyed, they hate their voters. They have control of all the major instiutions and they wasted the opportunity to do all the things their voters wanted.

Biden lost the election when he flew over to Israel and hugged Bibi. Bibi did what he has done to every democrat - stabbed them in the back.

News flash: The Biden administration was responsible for the border crisis.

Of course, this isn’t news — except to readers of the New York Times. It took the sleuthing of fully 15 New York Times reporters to belatedly uncover this curious fact, describing for their no doubt bewildered readers “How Biden Ignored Warnings and Lost Americans’ Faith in Immigration.”

What’s next — Covid-19 came from a Chinese lab? Russia didn’t manipulate the 2016 election?

My sarcasm is especially warranted because Todd Bensman, formerly on my staff and now at DHS, published a whole book on this nearly two years ago, whose title would have made a better headline for the Times story: Overrun: How Joe Biden Unleashed the Greatest Border Crisis in U.S. History.

As for the Times story itself, one thing that jumps out is the absence of the words “Alejandro Mayorkas,” Biden’s DHS secretary who was impeached precisely for his role in causing the border crisis. This leads me to suspect that he may have been one of the main sources for the tick-tock of administration deliberations, in a vain attempt to exonerate himself in the eyes of his fellows for his central role in sending Trump back to the White House.

and after losing the election, what new issue have Democrats focused on.

of course, expanding H1Bs.

and this is rich. Democrats suing Federal government because public universities , the same entities that train our citizens, can find enough trained workers.

how rich is that?

rather than focus the universities on exanding training of our youth, Democrats focus on giving universities cheap workers.

Yeah, I'm underwhelmed by the "reinvestment" strategy where they promise STEM education in exchange for immigrants. It's precisely these H-1B's that are so poor at training and placing Americans.

It would only make sense if these Universities were exclusive to Americans and the H-1Bs were strictly temporary, but at is it's just subsidizing training of immigrants for corporations.

Former Biden administration officials told The Times that Mr. Biden and his circle of close confidants — including Ron Klain, who was chief of staff during the president’s first two years, Mike Donilon, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and Anita Dunn — made two crucial errors.

First, they underestimated the scale of migration that was coming. Second, they failed to appreciate the political reaction to that migration — believing that stronger enforcement would alienate Latino and progressive voters, and also that a border surge would not be an important issue to most voters. Those calculations would later prove to be mistaken, with many voters, including Latinos, citing immigration as a reason for supporting Mr. Trump in 2024.

This is the crux of the issue. They cared more about re-election, party power, than what is right by the American people.

Two wrongs still don't make a right. All of the political momentum Biden gifted the GOP has quickly been pissed away by Trump's careless immigration crackdown.

disagree

many many swing voters are happy with the immigration crackdown.

mayorkas and Biden screwed the US voters. now we have Trump and his chaos.

False. We have Trump because too many fvking idiots thought that Trump would lower the price on eggs.

The Dem's unprecedented weakness in the 2024 election that allowed Trump to win a second term was caused by a chain of events dating back to 2020. The central figure in those chain of events is Biden. Mayorkas wasn't the boss.

I voted for Trump because of the border crisis. Polls show that it was the second most important issue, after the economy, for Trump voters.

I disagree that immigration doesn’t affect our lives. It affects everything - from housing costs, auto insurance costs, health care cost, traffic congestion, issues with ESL at schools, etc. I am one of the millions of Americans who is upset with the out of control immigration a thinks it is having a very negative effect on our country.
