Yup. Troops going unpaid was a major lever in getting GOP to negotiate. I will be surprised if Trump can pull off making this happen though - from a logistics standpoint.

dems should just end this nonsense now. move on and pick another battle later.

Reps literally control all 3 branches.

This ends when they say so.

60 votes. It only takes a few more Democrats to end this. Schumer is blocking that for now.

Republicans can get rid of the filibuster. Regular Americans don’t care about it. They don’t. So this is on them. They already have 3 Ds who voted with them. It wouldn’t taken much to get 7 more. But R are weak negotiators. Unless it’s bullying, they don’t know how to do it.

There’s nothing to negotiate. Dem agencies getting slashed. Military getting paid.

Keep it closed. I’m sure Trump has more up his sleeve for next week.

FAA and ICE are dem agencies?

Congress has declined to assert its Article I authorities around spending, so I guess nothing matters anymore. Trump is our King, because a minority of people want that and the Electoral College allows them to decide.

Hyperbole, much?
Also, Trump win the popular vote as well. Your whining about the electoral college doesn’t help your argument because he didn’t need it. He would’ve been elected without it.

Trump did not win the majority of the popular vote. He only won a plurality, 49.8%, meaning most people who voted did not vote for him.

Moreover, he received votes from only 77 million people, meaning a mere 32% of eligible voters cast a ballot for him. If you consider the entire U.S. population, only 23% of people voted for him.

So, yes, a minority of people voted for Trump. Deal with it.

No one said he won a majority. He did what you admit win the popular vote. A lesser minority voted for your girl.

Are you under a rock? He won both the electoral and popular. You just don’t like it.

He won less than half of the popular vote. Meaning a majority of people voted for a different candidate and did not want him to be the president.

And more people did not want Harris to be president.

Doesn’t matter. This conversation started with the point that a minority of people wanted Trump in office, which is true under every metric. Why can’t you admit that simple fact?

So you admit again that he won the popular vote. More than the other candidates. Why is that so triggering for you to admit?

I have never contested that he won the popular vote. But you still refuse to accept that most people who voted didn’t vote for him and wanted a different candidate to win.

Using your math that means that a minority of Americans voted for Biden, Clinton, Obama and Bush.

Biden, Clinton, Obama and Bush all won more than half the popular vote. Unlike Trump.

Trump won more than Harris.

Not the pp, but you don’t have a point. He won the popular vote by over 2 million more votes than his opponent. It doesn’t matter if it’s plurality or majority. He won.

I'm the PP who brought up the Electoral College, and I haven't posted since. I maintain that the Electoral College helped Trump get elected. More people in blue states might vote if they thought it mattered.

It's also not my main point. Changing the Constitution to give a President the powers of a King requires much more than a majority vote. Only a minority of Americans want Trump to have such power. But Congress is doing nothing to assert their constitutional rights

No, the conversation began because some tried to argue that he didn’t win popular vote by implying that it needed to be won by a majority rather than a plurality which is obviously wrong. Someone said he won the popular vote and another argued back that it was a plurality as if to say he didn’t win it.

I have never, at any point in this thread, said that he did not win the election. (Unlike the president himself, who refuses to admit that he did not win in 2020.) But most people voted for someone else in 2024. That is a fact. It means something. He does not have a sweeping mandate to do anything.
