What rule changes should NVSL do for next year?

Add IM to A meets!

I’d change the age rule to 6/30 or sometime around then so 1/2 way through the season

Touchpads with timers as backup. Faster meets, immediate results, and fewer volunteers.

Sounds great! Are you donating the $100k that will cost?

It would cost each pool about $10,000 to set this up. We have about 100 kids on our team. We would have to increase the cost by $100 per swimmer for the summer this was implemented. That would be cost prohibitive for several of our families.

Then don't do it. I would like to see a rule change that allows pools who want to do it to be allowed to do it. And since every divison has half home and half away meets, each division really only needs 3 sets--cutting the costs in half if they were so inclined to share.

Not to mention, are these vintage pools even physically compatible with touchpads?
As for volunteers, you’re still looking at 12 vs. 18 timers if you want to be consistent with PVS.
Pools with the funds could consider a plunger system similar to what’s used at IAS and ASR and the NVSL could update policies to support (but not mandate) their use.

I don’t think the touchpad idea is at all realistic. It doesn’t even really cut down on volunteers. You need 12 vs 18 timers and then add in a skilled and trained timing system operator. And cables running all over the deck etc. and people who know how to set it up.

Also fwiw most pvs officials don’t really think pads should be used for 10 and unders and prefer buttons bc so many kids miss the pads.

That's right, we shouldn't vote to make it possible foe those who want to do it because it might be hard for some people who don't want to do it.

I still don’t see a need to change the current rule. It works regardless of what FCPS does with its calendar. But if they had to change it, this would be the best of the options. And more consistent with what I’ve seen in other seasonal sports.

They could still be allowed in divisional and all-star meets.
And to preempt the modesty complaints, there are modest suits and knee skins available that aren't tech suits.

Agree.

Division 1 would be up in arms about this. OKM has a whole system of tech suits for all swimmers at dual meets.

What does this mean?

It was proposed last year and voted down. Most pools stated they did not want to make dual meets longer.

Love the changing the rule about shirts. It is a ridiculous rule, and having one only slows down a swimmer
