curious-what do you think is typical cost of a regular haircut?

I was charged $88 at Bubbles yesterday.

I was charged $120. And yes for a woman. Took her 10 minutes.

Outrageous! I would ask to see a breakdown of that price.

She works for herself. I guess she can charge whatever she wants. But I won’t use her again obviously. And yeah I get that it’s an easy cut. I have gotten this same cut in many places and even in the nicest places haven’t been charged that much. But lesson learned.

Did she dry and style your hair?

Did they wash your hair?

Yup. I have fairly short hair. maybe 15 minutes tops. the actual cutting probably took 2 minutes. it was literally a trim.

Price sounds in the range. I'm sure it took more than 2 mins. It's not their fault you have an easy cut. Trims are the same price.

Most salons don’t price the complexity of a cut. A haircut is a haircut whether it takes 10 min or 40. If you don’t think you need a fancy salon to do your trim go to a hair cutter.

+1. My stylist charges $85 for a haircut that takes her a full hour to do.

I think they price for complexity but so it by pricing for time. My stylist charges more for long hair, curly hair, etc.

I only go to fancy salons when I need something complicated/color etc…

Exactly. I had a great cut at Great Clips for $22+a 10 tip.

I am asking because I was just charged what I would consider a pretty insane amount for this (and this wasn’t at a fancy salon). But I haven’t even ever been charged this much at the fanciest salons.

Obviously it varies but I would really like to get other’s opinions.

I get a shampoo and cut, no blow dry. I pay $45 plus tip.

My hairdresser gives me a bang trim for free, an overall dry trim for about $40, and a full cut with a wash (but no dry - I hate having my hair dried) for more like $80.

She does a really good job and I would pay her more than that if she asked for it.

I have curly hair and finding someone who knows how to work with it has been a lifelong dream.

$120 is common near me

Bang trim just went up to $31. So I ordered a feather razor to do trims myself. 31 + tip is - IMO - a lot to maintain every two weeks on my hair which grows really fast.

60-75. Maybe up to 120-140.

TELL ME WHY I PAY THIS!

Honestly, idk. I’ve been to a bunch of different stylists looking for “the one” and I can honestly say they are all mostly terrible and don’t understand how to cut hair. I spend in the 180-280 rang depending upon cut and color. I’m never wowed even when I go to really reputable salons

I do!

OP, where do you live? That is very high for a simple haircut.

The cost of haircuts has gone up. I think hair cutters think they’re all that and a bag of chips! Well, now they’re feeling the pinch because people are cutting back since they got so expensive. There was an article a couple weeks back talking exactly about this.

$120 is on the higher end for a place like an aveda salon, their most senior stylists probably charge that. I typically pay $80-100 in nyc or dc.

$25 at Great Clips (or many others of similar names) plus a $5 tip.

I'm actually pretty high maintenance but my hair cut is easy.

$95 plus tip in Arlington. For the owner of the salon. Once in a while I will try something cheaper and am always very disappointed, so I've decided it's worth it to go to someone I know will do an excellent job. I only get it cut 3-4 times per year, so it is not so bad.
