curious-what do you think is typical cost of a regular haircut?

It depends if it's straight hair or not. Straight hair is really extremely easy and quick.

$50, Chinatown. They give me a head and shoulder massage during the wash.

I was charged $120. And yes for a woman. Took her 10 minutes.

Did they wash your hair?

Yup. I have fairly short hair. maybe 15 minutes tops. the actual cutting probably took 2 minutes. it was literally a trim.

Price sounds in the range. I'm sure it took more than 2 mins. It's not their fault you have an easy cut. Trims are the same price.

you think $120 is in range for a trim? I get my hair trimmed sometimes at my kids barber while they are getting their hair done and it’s like $30.

1. She should have asked in advance.
2. She got her hair washed, so presumably dried.
3. The stylist booked a specific amount of time for her. Whether it takes 15 or 30 mins, the time is booked for that client.
4. Inflation. 2 cava bowls cost me $26 today.

With my stylist at Hair Cuttery, which I think of as about as cheap as it gets, a cut with blow dry is about $65 - $70. Even if it is just a trim. But I think that includes an upcharge of about $10 because I have shoulder length wavy hair, which takes longer to blow dry.

it’s always interesting to me when people need to comment completely unhelpful things like this. I mean is it narcissism or what?

Yep. Main character syndrome.

+1

This "It was just a trim" stuff is nonsense.

Once I went to my husband's barber for a trim. It was $20. Now my husband trims it at home. And when I return to my hometown of Paris, in France, I can get a nice haircut with some layers for less than 50 euros at a local salon (not a fancy chain), next to my parents' condo.

I avoid the DC area salons like the plague because they don't cut well AND they charge too much!

50 euros is 57 dollars. Which is in line with what a lot of folks are quoting here and a lot more than this $20 you are paying at the "barber."

mine is 25 with tip. i know that is low, but i have gone to more expensive places and they don't do a better job (for me.)

a trim that takes 10 minutes should not be the same price as a complicated cut.

$95 cut and blow dry for me in Arlington.

My mom’s over-55 that has assisted living on site charges $75!!! For ladies that have hardly any hair. My mom had very thick hair but goes off-site. We were just talking last night how the price of haircuts is going up, up, up

If someone is paying $200 or more for a simple haircut then they are doing it simply so they can tell people they get $200 haircuts. it’s for no other reason.

When it comes to run of the mill trims I have seen zero difference in quality between the cheap places and the crazy expensive places.

I only go to fancy salons when I need something complicated/color etc…

I am asking because I was just charged what I would consider a pretty insane amount for this (and this wasn’t at a fancy salon). But I haven’t even ever been charged this much at the fanciest salons.

Obviously it varies but I would really like to get other’s opinions.

$15 for men, $40 for women.

I pay around $175 before tip, but that includes cleaning up my layers and bangs in addition to taking off some length.

I had to search around for a more affordable stylist and found one who charges $40 for just the cut. I walk out with wet hair but since it's not straight, I'd rather air dry it and see how the cut looks anyway. She's very good for the price, it's hard to find someone who doesn't charge crazy prices for curly hair.

In DC? Please share. The cheapest semi decent cut I’ve had for my curls is $120 + tip.

No, in MD, probably too far to be worth coming from DC.

But she's not a "curly stylist," she's a regular stylist who knows how to different hair textures differently. I basically found her by looking at the online portfolios of loooots of stylists people recommended on the biggest local Facebook page.
