Dufief Elementary should go to Crown easy access for busing. Same with Stonemill easy access.

They are the closest elementaries but MS not so much.

What do I know...

Logistics has never been a strong suit for MCPS.

How much risk is there that Travilah Elementary switches from Wootton to Crown? I’m thinking about moving there and am considering whether to wait a year to be sure my kids can go to Wootton.

As a Wootton parent I am not sure why you would do this. Crown will be brand new and beautiful with kids from the Wootton cluster. I would love to get changed to Crown.

Wootton is also cutthroat. Maybe this will help many of the HS be less so they can actually get accepted to UMD CP.

Don't be absurd Wootton send a ton of kids to UMD CP if your kid did not get in they are not qualified. It is a safety for most Wootton kids. Parent of 5 Wootton kids all accepted to UMD CP.

QO, GHS, RMHS, Wootton... all will look different after Crown, and it may impact college admissions. Several high stats students from W schools get rejected at UMD.

I agree with Laytonsville going to Damascus. Gaithersburg’s service map really confuses me. It shouldn’t serve that up north of the county. Same thing with Goshen. Map for reference below.

Goshen is fine where it’s at. But yes, 100% that Laytonsville should be moved to Damascus. I think Gaithersburg cluster should be entirely redrawn. - DHS parent

Laytonsville is closer to Watkins Mill than it is to either Gaithersburg or Damascus.

In both cases, it seems like school boundaries will get odd, in that there are elementary/middle schools that are very close to both Crown and Woodward that might shift.

The only ones for sure are the schools close to Woodward like WJ , BCC & Einstein. Only one of those is in the DCC. The new school will suck up some feeders and that will create a little ripple effect as 2nd degree schools might get tweaked for load balancing. Thats all we know for sure. They might not even include it in the DCC to protect its reputation or they might include it to allow students to fill it via choice. We simply don't know

They will keep the current boundaries for ES/MS, but the entire ES/MS may get zoned for a different HS.

The westernmost part of the DCC is Wheaton (Viers Mill ES) and those boundaries are not far from Woodward.

No, it's only stated that they will keep the current boundaries for ES. The MS and/or HS may get new boundaries. And yes, any ES or MS feeder patterns may change.

I don't know about MS, but ES boundary is not changing, so there is no feeder pattern change for ES.

You're conflating two different things.

1) ES boundaries. These are not changing, meaning everyone will still be zoned to the same ES to which they are now zoned.

2) ES feeder patterns. These may be changing, meaning your current ES may feed to a different MS, or a different HS, or both.
