Another thought
Dufief Elementary should go to Crown easy access for busing. Same with Stonemill easy access.

They are the closest elementaries but MS not so much.

What do I know...

Logistics has never been a strong suit for MCPS.

How much risk is there that Travilah Elementary switches from Wootton to Crown? I’m thinking about moving there and am considering whether to wait a year to be sure my kids can go to Wootton.

As a Wootton parent I am not sure why you would do this. Crown will be brand new and beautiful with kids from the Wootton cluster. I would love to get changed to Crown.

+1

Wootton is also cutthroat. Maybe this will help many of the HS be less so they can actually get accepted to UMD CP.

It's certainly possible Travilah could be assigned to Crown, or even QO, or stay at Wootton. No one can tell you "how much risk" there is.

My kids are in a cluster that will definitely be affected. And my take is that no matter what, it will be ok. Crown will have a brand new building, so I’d be pleased if that’s where they end up. They could end up at a less desirable school, but I still think they will find there people and the right classes for them at that school.

I could have said this myself! I think many people don't realize that many of these schools are the same. If the kids from the neighborhood go with you it really won't make that much of a difference.

Unless those famiies decide to move homes, as a poster or two have said.

Most people won’t move homes over this. Sure, a few might. But every year some families move for a variety of reasons.

QO, GHS, RMHS, Wootton... all will look different after Crown, and it may impact college admissions. Several high stats students from W schools get rejected at UMD.

high stats students get rejected from CP because their stats and application make it look like they are using CP for a safety instead of being genuinely interested.

I won’t be really concerned for Blair’s boundary changes. I would say Einstein should take some portions of our boundary. Northwood is good on it’s own, enough said.

Huh? Northwood will have 700 extra seats when the new building opens. They're adding them so they can be used to relieve Blair and/or Einstein and/or Wheaton's overcrowding.

That would mean they were not a true fan of the neighborhood though right? That would be very drastic for people already in the cluster. For people looking to buy with very young children they will be just fine once the dust settles.

Great point! Another thing many don't realize. Same stats and your kid at RM will get into MD over a kid at Wootton. Just a numbers game and frankly RM has many positives that Wootton does not. Wootton has all the same fights, drugs, vaping, sex and everything else at every other high school. It also has kids that work really hard in a pretty crappy environment. Those kids all move to a brand new building? What is wrong with that?

Any predictions about what will happen to the Laytonsville area? Stay the same (zoned for GHS except for a very small pocket that goes to Damascus High) or possibly get moved entirely to Damascus with the expansion?

Helpful to see 2020 census #s for that area.

I agree with Laytonsville going to Damascus. Gaithersburg’s service map really confuses me. It shouldn’t serve that up north of the county. Same thing with Goshen. Map for reference below.

Indeed, that's why boundaries need to be redrawn. Some of the boundaries are crazy.

If you live in the following clusters, the Woodward study may affect you:
Bethesda Chevy-Chase
Montgomery Blair
Albert Einstein
Walter Johnson
John F. Kennedy
Northwood
Wheaton
Walt Whitman

If you live in the following clusters, the Crown/Damascus study may affect you:
Winston Churchill
Clarksburg
Damascus
Gaithersburg
Richard Montgomery
Northwest
Poolesville
Quince Orchard
Seneca Valley
Watkins Mill
Thomas S. Wootton

It would be helpful to have the Woodward Study formally renamed. That way, BCC cluster families and DCC families know they are affected by the study.

I think WJ will keep the Wildwood neighborhood because it is in the walk zone for WJ and proximity wise further from Woodward. It also makes sense to use the 495/270 spur as boundary lines for the zones in the boundary study.

I think the NBMS zone will largely stay at WJ and the Tilden zone will move to Woodward, along with the K-P/NBMS island along the north side of Tuckerman. And both WJ and Woodward will also receive at least one adjacent ES from the DCC.

Are they going down to the ES level? Prior descriptions of the study limited to MS, but perhaps that changed with Taylor

It is limited to only HS and MS boundaries changing, but they can still change the feeder pattern for an ES to go to a different MS or HS.
