Curious what makes you say this? People voting with their feet or dollars is common. Is there a real reason or just bc you like DT?

I'm not a Trump fan, but I don't see any real evidence of any significant changes except for performers voluntarily cancelling their own shows.
Its over reaction.
And previously, the KC was primarily run by those that supported Democrats.
I'm guessing you were A OK with that?

KC canceled a concert by the Gay Men's Chorus with the NSO that was supposed to happen during World Pride. So, you know...except for that...

Oh, look. Maybe get all the facts before going down the usual hyperbolic path.

"In an emailed statement, Jean Davidson, executive director of the NSO, said the Kennedy Center’s decision to cancel the performance preceded Trump’s takeover.

“Before the leadership transition at the Kennedy Center, we made the decision to postpone Peacock Among Pigeons due to financial and scheduling factors. We chose to replace it with The Wizard of Oz, another suitable program for World PRIDE participation,” Davidson said.

“Program changes are a common practice. We were unable to announce the replacement program until we had secured the rights to present it, but in the interest of transparency, we removed the original program from the website to prevent further ticket sales,” she said.

The PP said only artists had canceled their appearances and that KC had not canceled any. I cited an example of a show KC canceled/"postponed" that just happens to be LGBTQ focused. There's nothing hyperbolic about stating that fact. But when they do cancel shows centered on minority groups they don't like and need someone to run PR to try to gaslight the rest of us that it's no big deal, I'm sure they will call you first. Congrats.

This is very interesting and explains exactly why Trump was able to oust the KC board - because of BIDEN's actions upon becoming president in 2021, when he set the precedent. Educate yourselves:

No surprise that you won't admit to being wrong. The implication of your previous post was that the KC cancelled the Gay Men's Chorus BECAUSE of Trump. Which was utterly false.

Anyway a lot of us in fed and fed-adjacent jobs are going to have a lot less money and stability going forward so yeah cutting this type of spending immediately, sorry. A lot of downstream victims, unfortunately.

That’s all well and good, but Trump took it a step further and seated himself, probably to get the $1M salary.

I just received notice that my tickets to Eureka at KC are cancelled.

The sad fact of the matter is the KC has gone from a respected venue to a joke. Hopefully it will regain its status one day.

Censorship of the arts. Despicable.

They should book more performances at wolf trap.

What is your point? Because another man we hate did something we have to support Trump’s Kennedy center? No.

Anonymous wrote:I saw on another thread a lot of people saying don’t buy KC because of Trump. Please don’t do this. There are tons and tons of unionized workers employed by the KC in performing roles as well as ticket sellers, stage hands, lighting, etc. Many of the performers currently have contracts for shows that were planned prior to the Trump takeover. If people start cancelling their tickets, it will give the Trunpies an excuse to potentially cancel those contract and then just bring in crap like Kid Rock or potentially bankrupt the KC (maybe paving the way to sell it for real estate?). I hate Trump but no one should boycott unless the unions call for it. Boycotting now is just harming the workers, the arts, and the city’s future artistic heritage.
Thank you.

Meh. Trump is crashing the whole economy. There will be starving artists all over.

“Known nazi” is beyond farce and feels like you maaayyyybe need to have someone point out to you what actually Nazis did so that you don’t continue to insult the memories of the 6 million Jews who were brutally tortured and MURDERED under the Nazi regime.

Mean words that result in someone’s hurt feelings or passing laws and drafting policies that you disagree with or even “put lives at risk” (as goes the argument) may well be something to get upset about and protest. That’s all fine.
But you really need to make this its own argument rather than use hyperbolic comparisons to the world’s worst mass atrocities to make your point.
Otherwise you just look like a literal clown.

+100
Thank you.

And if those 6 million Jews (and gays and others) were alive right now, they'd be reminding you that Nazis didn't start with death camps and that their initial rise looked JUST LIKE THIS. Who do you think they'd be more insulted by: those of us who are so horrified by the Holocaust that we are vigilant against and resistant to even a whiff of similar dynamics or by people like you who invoke them to excuse and minimize how horrific it is to see public officials repeatedly giving Nazi salutes on national television? I'd rather be an aggressive anti-Nazi clown than a disgusting sympathizer and excuser.

Totally! OP what is your stake in this? I will NOT go to the KC during Trump's reign of terror. I prefer taking the train to NYC to see Broadway or going to other local theaters in DC. Trump has some particular nefarious obsession with JFK...1. Taking over KC, 2. Firing KC Library Staff, 3. Axing USAID ( founded by JFK, 4. Naming drug addict/worm brain RFK) to HHS SEC (to " own the lib" Kennedys + Kennedy followers.
*What more do you need? A fleet of MAGA wrecking balls literally tearing down the walls of KC?

NSO should make connections with GW, UMD, Georgetown, American, and use university performance spaces. A win-win-win for the venues, the NSO and the audiences.
