I just bought tickets to a show next month. KC needed a revamp, it was too leftist. |
Sorry but we have to take a stand for something. We lost because we were too f'ing nice and not willing to let anything fall behind. We have to make choices. I WILL not go to KC under Trump. |
To stay on the actual topic of the thread, if cancelled shows are replaced by other shows, won’t the union workers still have jobs? Why does the content of the show matter? Do some shows not use union workers? |
Yeah. You tell' em, PP. |
She should stomp both feet too! |
OP, I’ll have to wait and see what comes next. The Old Kennedy Center had an intentional mix of offerings — appealing to a wide range of audiences. I don’t have any current tickets, but I also won’t buy any going forward unless I feel welcomed as a guest. Will the Jazz programs that Jason Moran has been building continue? What about the daily free Millennium Stage programs? Will they commit to the Alvin Ailey performances? Will the Alvin Ailey company still want to perform there? I’d love to continue to support the Kennedy Center and the people who work there. I’m waiting to see just how much apartheid Trump is trying to recreate here.
When Trump was married to Ivana, they tried very openly to be accepted by the society folks who supported places like the Met — both the Opera and the Museum of Art. As parvenus, their money was welcomed much more than their presence. I suspect that Trump seethed for a few decades — and now he has control of America’s opera house. |
Most contracts prohibit striking during term of contract. You also can’t strike to demand replacement of management. Also, there’s no functioning NLRB so striking employees would be subject to replacement. |
Just bought tickets to Strathmore. Won’t go under this Board and Executive Director. |
It depends on the workers. So if cancelled shows are replaced by other shows, IATSE and the ticket sellers will probably still work. But if they cancel a musical, the actors equity folks will be out a job. If they cancel the NSO performance, the AFM musicians will be out. For those programs that were planned and booked during the old adminstration, I think it’s important to retain support. Pull support once he brings in his own crap productions. |
No you didn’t. |
I go to the KC regularly, mostly for the NSO, but I’m done with it. Too bad, it was a great venue. |
No KC for me under this administration. |
Same, actually! We’re giving the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra a try. |
Ticket sales have plummeted at the Kennedy Center:

My heart is just breaking for the NSO performers. They are really nice people and so dedicated. So sad. |
