UVA OUT THIS FRIDAY

To the people bashing UVA's OOS tuition, please don't let your DC apply. I'm sure they will stroll into a private T30 so problem solved. Please allow the families who are interested and waiting for a decision to use this space to discuss.

Best to all... and those videos are fun to watch...

but.... Where do we find the Instagram account with all the videos of the kids who didn't get in?

I want to see the videos of OOS parents crying when kids get in and see tuition alone is $81K a year.

DP. Are you serious?? $81k/year... for UVA??

In-state is $40k all-in for Arts & Sciences (UVA's largest college). In-state Engineering is $50k all in. OOS fees are higher because .. duh ... they are OOS Engineering applicants. UCLA and Cal Berkeley operate exactly the same way. You don't like it? Go in-state engineering in your own state. Frankly, I wish MORE in-stare options were available at UVA and VT. Too many VA parents have to look for OOS engineering options because theirkids can't get into top engineering schools in VA. They go to Pitt, Penn state when they would rather be in VA. 1/3 OOS is unfair.

A) they already know thatwhen they apply. Fee schedules are transparent.
B) other great OOS options are the same. UCLA is $77,293 for regular OOS

+1. The complaining PP apparently doesn't know that all great OOS programs are that expensive. UCLA OOS is $80k+. Cal. Berkeley is $81+. U of Michigan is $81+ jumping to $84 in years 2, 3, and 4. That's for ALL OOS, not just engineering.

Still less expensive than my SLAC at $94k a year (and so not worth it)

UVA seems like a fantastic school and you are lucky to have it as your in-state flagship. Signed, NYer with a bunch of SUNY crapholes that literally look like prisons.

By comparison my daughter got in Binghamton and OOS tuition is 27k and they gave her 10k a year merit. So 17k OOS tuition. Quite a difference. Sadly she does not want to go. UVA for a state school is pricey.

You're right. At UVA and W&M it should be 2/3 OOS minimum.

+100. Apply to Michigan, UCLA and Cal where -surprise! - thry are also $80k plus a year for all OPS students. That's how publics provide the education they do at low cost for in-state students: OOS and internationals help subsidize the system. Don't like it? Then stay in your own state. Oh, right ... not the best option in most states, is it?

Anonymous wrote:Paid 55k for in state Engineering soph year because they charge for extra credit hours: one extra course a semester is around $1000. For double majoring and other goals it adds up. Then, the off campus housing"estimate" in the COA estimator is far off what the decent places charge...add another 5k extra for the year over the estimate for next year.
It is expensive for in-state yet kid does not get the benefit of the smaller classes that his friend gets at a T18 private engineering school

As the parent of a first year engineering student at UVA, thanks for the heads up on the extra credit costs. Sigh! They did manage to get a bed on grounds next year, though.

+1. For. A. State. School.

Like. No. Other. State. School.
Good luck to all! Great school, worth every penny.

For those saying next year’s OOS tuition is $80K+, where are you getting this information? It’s not on the uva website.

Where did you get this? Tuition is 55 k for OOS students which is cheaper than U Michigan I think.

My instater is at 47,000 so you definitely want to look at all that is included in your total OOS pricing

My in-state mid is $40k all in for College of Arts & Sciences (UVA's largest school). Great deal.

My in-state kid is under 40K all in. V good deal. Also got into Ivies and other top 20s. All is was over 90K. Personally, I would NOT do UVA OOS but for in-state, feel very lucky.
