We applied from OOS. It is the amount with housing and other fees according to net calculator on the UVA website.

Best to all... and those videos are fun to watch...

but.... Where do we find the Instagram account with all the videos of the kids who didn't get in?

I want to see the videos of OOS parents crying when kids get in and see tuition alone is $81K a year.

+1. For. A. State. School.

Like. No. Other. State. School.
Good luck to all! Great school, worth every penny.

I believe UCLA, Michigan and UVA are worth it OOS.

They usually release stats a bit before the admissions decisions. Anyone know when that may come?

We are oos and agree. Would add Berkeley and UNC to this list. We would have paid for any of these despite high cost.

It's Wednesday. Decisions on Friday. What are you really asking?

I’m asking about the post that usually comes out of uva about how many applications they got, how many admit, deny, defer. They usually release that before decisions.

It's often the day before around 4pm, but sometimes is only a few hours before.

Right, it just seems weird to ask when it's going to be sometime in the next 55 hours.

Why do you think talented oos kids treat UVA as a backup? If you are going to pay private school tuition, go to a private school….
Most T30 private schools are $90K/yr.

LOOK IT UP on the Uva website, pull down under each school: the total cost of attendance for FIRST year engineering at UVA, OOS, isis 91-92k estim, 92-94k for years 2-4. UVA colleges of A&S is 81-82k first year OOS, 82-83 after that. We pay 84k all in for Engineering at an ivy in the T10. A&S students pay the same but typically do not have any book or computer fees so may be some less. No extra charge for years after first, no extra charge for taking an overload of classes.

UVA makes zero sense for an OOS student especially for engineering. Its a backup.

I won't go far as to say it makes zero sense. There are generational/legacy reasons for why a kid might choose UVA engineering...

But, for engineering, especially, engineering, why not go to VT? (VT is half the cost of UVA engineering, and VT Engineering has more prestige than UVA Engineering)
or Georgia Tech (GT out of state is only $4k more than UVA Engineering in-state);
Purdue (Purdue OoS is also less than UVA Engineering in-state)

Again, everyone has their reasons, perhaps the family/kid just loves UVA and that's the only school for them. But I don't understand why UVA Engineering is so expensive, when better engineering schools charge less.

Good luck everyone. We were where you you last year and waiting is so nervewracking!

My DD is there and absolutely loves it.

Much smaller class sizes at UVA.

Setting is very different.

People don't have to go to the "best ranked" school per US News.

The kids I know who gets into both choose VT for engineering.

My kid chose UVA engineering over VT (also over CS at WM). You’re going to find tons of kids who make each decision. It doesn’t prove a thing. We are lucky to have these schools in VA. They could be happy and successful at lots of places.
