Me! And we have an excellent in state flagship. Everyone has a different philosophy about education - mine came from my parents. We pay for the best college the kid can get into that he also wants to go to. It is an incentive to work hard in high school and lets them explore a new part of the country. College is more than 4 years of academics - it is meeting new people, reinventing yourself and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. We are fortunate to do this - but we have made prioritizing saving for education a huge part of our marriage, since the kids were born. We are lucky that the market has come together to do what we wanted - let the kids pick the best school they can get into if that's what they want. And, yes, UVA was on our list. So is Michigan and Berkeley and UCLA. Some of you people in Virginia do not know how well esteemed Virginia is. |
Levels - what math class to be in starting freshman year. 30 years ago at least it was a big deal that I had taken calculus senior year. My eldest is more advanced than I was (one year ahead, so did calc junior year and now taking stats) I am trying to figure out how important it is that my younger one is in the same track |
DS just got in as test-optional |
DC got in TO during this EA round. |
DC got in TO ED this cycle. The comments on the "total package" view of things are spot on based on the kids I've seen this year - it's not just a great test score or a great GPA but who is the kid and how do they articulate how they will contribute to UVA both in and out of the classroom. |
UVA has a 16% OOS yield rate. |
