I think they got less snow, up county. I'm on a busier street and we are almost to pavement. But I heard our neighbors in a chat group saying they hadn't gotten their roads plowed yet.

Wah wah. Enjoy your kids!

Enjoy your kids, don’t coddle them.

I just took 2 weeks off enjoying my kids. I have a job to get back to! We're on week 3 of break now.

So get back to work. Arrange childcare if you need it. Enjoy!

Childcare? I pay for it, but it's closed too.

Having to work when your kids have a snow day is part of parenting. Figure it out. You can do it!

Lack of courage?

We still have not seen a snow plow on our street. No chance the bus could get to us.

Costco is hopping right now but MCPS can't open tomorrow? MCPS should figure it out.

Did you forget we just came out of a pandemic? How do you imagine parents are "functioning"?

BZZT! Sorry. It’s 2025. Your Pandemic Excuse Card has been declined.

Buck up, little campers.

Ridiculous.

There are only 2 snow days built into the calendar

They need to take away those waste of time professional days for teachers starting with 1/29.

Professional days were necessary when teachers didn't have an app. Now, they should be keeping their grades up to date on a day to day basis. Taking away professional days would encourage this habit.

My mother was a teacher and didn't need professional days to keep grades up to date.

Things have changed over the years. Back when I started teaching (30+ years ago), we would bubble in grades with #2 pencils. Yes, everything is done online now, but that doesn’t necessarily make things faster. Simply creating an assignment within the Synergy platform requires multiple steps before grades can be added.

As others have shared, students are completing and turning in assignments up until the last day of the marking period. All of these late assignments must be graded. Even after all grades have been entered, there is a very time consuming process that teachers must go through to finalize grades for every subject. Once submitted, the staff development teacher must go through and check ALL grade books for every teacher in the school. I can assure you that teachers spend many hours each professional development day working on our laptops to grade last minute assignments, enter grades, and go through the multiple steps of finalizing grades.

It seems like this is not a service that is difficult to procure privately. Are upcounty HOAs struggling to get their private streets plowed?

Our neighborhood is inside the beltway, a few blocks off of a main artery, and saw our first county plow about an hour ago.

MoCo drastically cut it's snow removal budget since 2020. If you are mad about this, complain to Elrich. This is not a MCPS issue. MCPS can only deal with the hand they are dealt. Safety is their main concern. All it takes is ONE accident... I agree it's frustrating, but our county is 500sq miles. Keep that all in mind.....

MCPS admits they haven't cleared school grounds. The shopping centers have all managed to do it.
