Schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to weather conditions. Athletic practices, events, and private childcare programs are also canceled.

What a sad day for all the people who stomped their feet on all the snow threads and brayed “They are opening tomorrow! Two hour delay at most! Back to work, lazy teachers!” They must be so bummed.

Actually we were saying it's terrible planning on MCPS's part to schedule the bare minimum number of instructional days, now makeup days will be needed that will be pointless because nobody planned for them.

“Actually” multiple people in multiple threads were doing exactly what I stated above.

This is DCUM. There are many stupid abusive trolls. Teachers are not the only targets. If you can't drown them out then I suggest you find another way to occupy your time. The NY Times games section is pretty fun.

Ain’t that the truth

It is going to stay cold enough where snow drifts on bus stop areas will not clear. And there is a very real threat of more accumulating snow this Saturday. My RE assessment just went up by an absurd amount. They couldn't have put any of my extra dollars to work to hire some guys down at home depot to clear snow? Is the plan to just stay closed indefinitely until Spring?

I’m good, thanks. They’ve given me a good laugh on a cold day.

I've been driving around today. Roads and schools are already cleared. This is ridiculous.

Neighborhood roads are not plowed and neither are sidewalks for the walkers.

Ours aren't.

For everyone asking why, take note of this part of the message:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you have a vehicle parked in a school parking lot, please move it immediately. Vehicles left in school parking lots are impeding our ability to clear ice and snow further delaying our ability to reopen."

I just got back from an errand and drove by 2 elementary schools in dense neighborhoods. The lots were full of cars, all still snowed in. The plow had gone through the lot, but people need to dig their cars out and move them.

Code red yesterday and today means staff don't go into the schools. So, IMO, people who leave the cars there should be towed.
