MCPS delayed Wednesday?

Definitely delayed. My street is surprisingly clear (Takoma), which is rare. We're usually last to get the plow/salt. Still, sounds like there's still plenty of mess out there.

I don't think it'll be a full closure though. I really hope not...

I just drove around Clarksburg and Damascus. 3 out of 5 school lots had been plowed.

From what I have seen, mid county got more than Damascus this time. So that might not be a best location to help determine this time around.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is actively plowing and treating residential roadways. Plows will pass through each residential roadway at least once and treat the road by nightfall tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 7. Plows aim to make roads passable, but due to packed and icy snow and re-freezing residents won't see bare pavement. Plows will remain active overnight to continue clearing and retreating roads. Crews will be active until all of over 5,300 County lane miles are passable. Sidewalks and bike lanes are actively being cleared as well.

Rural areas such as Damascus and Poolesville have experienced snow drift conditions and crews are revisiting plowing streets as needed. Additional resources will be diverted from other areas of the County to assist with plowing neighborhoods in a timely manner.

What area? Germantown in is good shape everywhere I've seen. (west side)

Silver Spring just outside the beltway.

Derwood is a mix. Schools are plowed. Rural and neighborhood roads are very hit or miss. Some roads not plowed at all yet.

There is no reason at all why schools should not open on time tomorrow. This county is pathetic and the laziness of school staff and teachers who want another day off is also pathetic.

We are in Potomac close to River Rd and our entire neighborhood hasn’t been plowed yet.

And here it is again! Criticizing teachers, as usual… who have NO say in whether schools open.

So DCUM.

1. There are two reasons actually. Inability to clear sidewalks and parking lots for
student and adult safety.

Are parent supposed to just open the door and students roll out?

2. The county works until after most business hours to ensure the biggest snow we’ve had in years is clean even when gusts blow the snow back onto previous cleared roads

3. Staff and teachers really have no say in the matter (but you already knew that), you just want to complain. People are allowed to enjoy days off. Don’t you enjoy a day off? I won’t call staff lazy for a day the county makes calls on.

Have a hot cocoa or tea PP. Deep breathing.

So what has to happen by tomorrow morning for them to allow childcare in school buildings to choose to open even if school's closed tomorrow? Does anyone know how they make that decision (versus requiring child care to be closed like today), and whether they'll at least be able to do that?

+1 and we wonder why we are begging for teachers.

I think sidewalks need to be cleaned.
