Will Asian American parents really push back though? |
Only if they don't have an Asian principal. |
The decision isn’t made by principals. |
This is more reason to make the make-up day selection process automatic. Let nature pick the specific day so the board can't be accused of picking favorites among religions and ethnic groups. |
I'm starting to think that no decisions are made by principals. |
We shouldn’t have to make up all the days since a state of emergency was declared. |
This Asian parent couldn't care less about Lunar New Year. |
But we do. And that's reasonable, given that we know its going to snow in the winter. It was obvious that 2 built-in days wasn't going to be enough. Under current state law, we have to use 3 make-up days before we can even ask for a waiver. |
Me also. Celebrating it seems more like a gesture here. I lived in a very Asian US city before here and it is also more of a gesture there too. |
How snow is handled says a lot about public sector (schools shut down for three days) and private (managed to get snow cleared quickly, open for business). |
FCPS was also closed tomorrow due to snow. |
Who crawled up your arse? Why use quotes? I guess the students don’t need second quarter grades on their report cards, because that is the day for that to be done. |
The problem is, what happens if they aren’t used, do you end the year early? Because then you end up with parents upset that they don’t have camps or childcare lined up for those days. |
You don't get it. If there are no snow days, you still have school on those days. It's ok to have a few more school days than the absolute bare minimum required by law. |
Private businesses don't get paid if they close. MCPS got MORE money when they shut down school buildings during the pandemic. |
