Ours was plowed yesterday.

No plow yet here in my Silver Spring neighborhood either.

I think delay is a near guarantee. I give it 40% chance of full day off.

Without engine block heaters, those diesel engines take forever to get going when it's that cold.

If there’s significant melting with all the sunshine today, the hard re-freeze might make things pretty icy, too.

17F is fine for diesel engines. Run it for 5 minutes as you get the bus ready. You don't know what you're talking about.

I think a delay for sure and likely a closing - I live on the same street as an MCPS elementary school and we have not seen a plow for the street or the parking lot. Of course they have all day to get to it, but nothing at all yet.

My tiny Rockville street is black pavement. Shout out to Rockville for great plowing.

Based on the sheet of in my neighborhood and the complete lack of effort of most of my neighbors to dig out cars, I don’t see how tomorrow is possible.

I just checked the schools near my house. The parking lots are clear, as are the sidewalks. People might be surprised about tomorrow.

I teach near DTSS and expect a delay tomorrow.

I think closing. All the neighborhoods near me in Bethesda still have a thick sheet of snow on the road even with a plow going through once. Lots of work still to be done.

same and I'd bet on a delay

You do realize that's on individuals, not the schools or county? MCPS decides based on plowing of their school properties, as well as bus stop clearance. That's all. Not on whether your neighbors failed to put down salt or clear their cars.

Definitely a delay, possible closure

I know we’ve had delays for that reason (ostensibly, at least) in the past. Maybe I’m remembering the temp threshold wrong.

My delay prediction still holds, though.

We did, but the temperature was in the single digits.

We are near NIH, street not plowed (or treated).

OP, here is what the county website says for the Bethesda area re plowing: (just as an example of % complete)

The address you entered is on a neighborhood street in the BETHESDA Service Area.

What We are Doing: We are in Stage 4 : MCDOT is plowing Primary routes and Neighborhood streets in your Service Area.

How Far Along Are We? We have plowed 63% of the Neighborhood streets and Primary routes in your Service Area, which is 344 out of 546 total lane miles.

When Will We Be Done? We estimate that we will complete Stage 3 and Stage 4 in the BETHESDA Service Area by 01/08/2025 12:56 AM.

Here is the link for the other county areas:
