MCPS delayed Wednesday?

Anonymous
I'm a MCPS teacher who lives in southern Frederick near Urbana. Our main roads and residential streets are finally plowed and I expect my own kids will be going back to school tomorrow. It looks like the main roads in MoCo are cleared as well. What are the side streets looking like down there?

They will call a delay because they are afraid of morning ice and want other people to warm the roadsm

MoCo as a whole got a bit more snow than Frederick. So I'd count on a delay but not be surprised at a closure again.

I am in northern Montgomery County and our neighborhood streets have not been plowed.

We are in Silver Spring just outside the beltway and our neighborhood streets have not been plowed.

I'm expecting a delay because of morning ice. We're in downtown Bethesda where this is not an issue, because there are mountains of salt everywhere, but I imagine it is an issue for school bus stops around the county.

+1 DTSS inside the beltway here and the plows have not yet arrived.

This is an unusual storm in that the south and center parts of the county got more snow than the northern parts. Usually it’s the reverse. My inside the beltway Silver Spring neighborhood hasn’t seen a plow yet. I am betting on another day off tomorrow at this rate.

Have the school parking lots beeen plowed? That will also determine....

I would not be surprised by a delay, though if the county got it together today, I certainly could see us opening on time on Wednesday too.

We’re in bethesda and we still haven’t had our street plowed, nor did they salt before this storm. I think a delay is likely which is a pain in neck for me as my kid won’t be able to get to School without me — we are a mile from the school and there are no sidewalks so with the snow banks it’s really unsafe.

I can not imagine we would go on time tomorrow; I wouldn’t be surprised if we have another closure Wed and on time opening Thursday. I’m in Gaithersburg near Kentlands and the side streets have been plowed at least once but are still icy.

With temps in the teens overnight, they'll almost certainly delay, if only to allow time to get buses warmed up.

Without engine block heaters, those diesel engines take forever to get going when it's that cold.

If there’s significant melting with all the sunshine today, the hard re-freeze might make things pretty icy, too.

Temps aren't going above freezing all week, so "morning ice" won't really be different from afternoon ice.

There's something called the sun in the daytime
