There’s clearly something at fault with the road design here, because there shouldn’t be a crash every day in the same spot. Something is definitely wrong with this part of roadway.

If people who live with the intersection every day are telling you there's a big problem here, maybe we should listen?

DDOT does some pretty crazy things in the name of safety, things that indisputably make streets less safe.

It seems pretty clear that the intentional road narrowing - which is DDOT's go to move - caused this. But rather than reflect upon how badly they've screwed things up the hyperventilating safety patrol is trying to crisis management this.

You are stone cold crazy.

There have been 52 fatal road accidents as of December 27, already matching the 2023 record total. Were the other 51 people also killed as a result of “intentional road narrowing”?

Odds are that you are the very same poster who tries to claim that traffic fatalities are so rare we shouldn’t worry about them.

I honestly do not care if people damage their cars because they can’t slow down enough to navigate a curb extension. I also have absolutely no doubt that road fatalities in DC would be much higher without this infrastructure.

Do tell!

Here's the number of deaths each year in DC caused by speeding drivers (per the police). Please point out when the many, many, many traffic calming measures the city has implemented started reducing traffic deaths.

2022: 9
2021: 12
2020: 15
2019: 10
2018: 9
2017: 9
2016: 8
2015: 11
2014: 12
2013: 11
2012: 5
2011: 15
2010: 8

oh lord, not this again

It is so incredibly offensive that MPD is taking its sweet time finding this murderer. If the car isn't stolen, they know who this guy is and where he lives, but it will be six days tomorrow since the crash and yet no one has been arrested. How hard it is to find this guy? I don't expect the entire force to be put on a manhunt for this guy but it's pretty transparent that MPD isn't even trying. F MPD. Something more money can fix, right Mafioso Muriel?

All I can say is that this is SOP for fatal car accidents. There is only any attention if the family knows how to exert pressure.

When my brother's FIL was killed by an intoxicated driver the police initially gave a statement to the press about what a nice lady she was and the sun was j her eyes. My brother had to call a lawyer friend ro get them to drug test her. Turns out she was on just all the drugs.

So what? There is nothing wrong with the roadway here. Actually what we need is more road design that punishes drivers for dangerous driving. Instead we remove infrastructure that protects peds and cyclists because dumba55 drivers mess their vehicles up. Some people like dangerous drivers should learn the hard way.

There is definitely an issue with the road here, specifically with the width between the curbs. It’s obviously too narrow if multiple cars are hitting the curbs each day in that one particular spot, and nowhere else.

You sound pretty stupid TBH, so I’m not sure it even does any good trying to explain things like this to you because you’re likely incapable of understanding it until YOU crash your car into the curb. So that’s what I suggest you do - go drive through it yourself at the posted 20mph speed limit, until you hit the curb, too.

Oh wait - you probably don’t have a license or a car, do you? Yeah, I forgot about that part. Dang.

lol ok. How about we just close off C st to through traffic there if drivers cannot drive safely on it?

Sure, I’m good with that. As long as it’s also closed off to cyclists and scooter riders too

Deal?

Thanks for demonstrating you do not actually care about traffic safety but are just a giant weirdo with an obsession.

Bwahahahaha!

And thank YOU for demonstrating you’re just the typical scofflaw cyclist who’s happy to exclude everyone from roads (or sidewalks) for sake of your own entitlement.

I mean, share the road right? Well if it’s too dangerous for cars, it’s also too dangerous for bikes and scooters, too. Only pedestrians can use it safely

Cheers !

That was a sign for drivers. Drivers were supposed to share the road with bicyclists. However, too many drivers assumed it was a sign for bicyclists, so now the approved sign says "Bicycles may use full lane".

If you really can’t see that the vehicle is traveling far too fast then you’re an imbecile.

Hopefully the driver has learned his/her lesson and will slow down before they also kill somebody.

Serious question: are you capable of making a post without insulting someone as a part of it?

Accommodating weirdos on bicycles is what created the hazardous conditions that contributed to a man getting run over by a driver who lost control of his vehicle because he struck a poorly designed curb that was part of a traffic restriction area for bike lanes.

I live there too. And so I know there is no protected bike lane that caused this accident. What this accident shows is DDOT needs to continue taking more actions to make the streets safer - but people like you do whatever you can to get in the way. Don’t pretend like you’d be supportive of additional safety measures because we ALL know you would not be.

I really do not understand it but I think you guys feel personally offended that DDOT changes your neighborhood with out your individual consent. And you feel personally offended by bicyclists for reasons I do not totally understand.

The camera guy from the tv news crew actually got video of it happening while they were there. The driver in the red car in the tV story wasn’t even speeding.

There’s clearly something at fault with the road design here, because there shouldn’t be a crash every day in the same spot. Something is definitely wrong with this part of roadway.

Cheers !

dude. This is a thread about the tragic death of a pedestrian. the fact that you cannot stop making it all about your weird obsession with bicycles tells us all we need to know about you.

Accommodating weirdos on bicycles is what created the hazardous conditions that contributed to a man getting run over by a driver who lost control of his vehicle because he struck a poorly designed curb that was part of a traffic restriction area for bike lanes.

STOP LYING. The curb bump out is NOT part of a bike lane there.
