Explain how the bike lane cause the fatality. Be specific.

You all are awful. This man died because of a dangerous, speeding driver, who then abandoned their vehicle and ran away. And you want to blame a bike lane? Y'all need to go sit in the corner and think about how your behavior is hurtful to the other children.

You need to take a look in the mirror. The whole idea behind the Vision Zero changes is that there is no individual fault. Everything is caused by the layout of the road. In this case the changes seemed to have caused the accident ergo Vision Zero killed that person.

The changes did not cause the accident.

The driver’s manifest lack of respect for the lives of others caused the accident.

Ok then. You sound completely sane.

No, that's incorrect. The whole idea behind Vision Zero is that the transportation system should be designed to prevent deadly consequences when people make mistakes.

In this case, a speeding driver (a person making the mistake of driving too fast) killed a man on a sidewalk (a deadly consequence). That street needs more traffic calming, not less.

Ah yes, of course. It just needs calming to calm the calming. A few more signs, a few more cameras, a few more bike lanes and a few more concrete protrusions. That will fix everything! Vision Zero hasn't failed we failed Vision Zero.

Ok so … what’s your idea? that C St NE be a 3-lane speedway through the neighborhood with no sidewalks? Should we remove all the sidewalks?

Blaming anyone or anything other than the driver of the car is pure gaslighting.

The road is too narrow in between the curbs. Neighbors who live next to the intersection say multiple cars hit the curb each day, and at least one per day loses control.

The camera guy from the tv news crew actually got video of it happening while they were there. The driver in the red car in the tV story wasn’t even speeding.

There’s clearly something at fault with the road design here, because there shouldn’t be a crash every day in the same spot. Something is definitely wrong with this part of roadway.

I actually read that it wasn’t stolen. But it takes a surprisingly long time to get any information out of MPD about traffic deaths unless the family is actively pressuring for it and knows how to do so.

It is so incredibly offensive that MPD is taking its sweet time finding this murderer. If the car isn't stolen, they know who this guy is and where he lives, but it will be six days tomorrow since the crash and yet no one has been arrested. How hard it is to find this guy? I don't expect the entire force to be put on a manhunt for this guy but it's pretty transparent that MPD isn't even trying. F MPD. Something more money can fix, right Mafioso Muriel?

So what? There is nothing wrong with the roadway here. Actually what we need is more road design that punishes drivers for dangerous driving. Instead we remove infrastructure that protects peds and cyclists because dumba55 drivers mess their vehicles up. Some people like dangerous drivers should learn the hard way.

There is definitely an issue with the road here, specifically with the width between the curbs. It’s obviously too narrow if multiple cars are hitting the curbs each day in that one particular spot, and nowhere else.

You sound pretty stupid TBH, so I’m not sure it even does any good trying to explain things like this to you because you’re likely incapable of understanding it until YOU crash your car into the curb. So that’s what I suggest you do - go drive through it yourself at the posted 20mph speed limit, until you hit the curb, too.

Oh wait - you probably don’t have a license or a car, do you? Yeah, I forgot about that part. Dang.

Does every car going through that spot hit the curb? Or do some drivers manage to navigate it safely? Are you required to go 20 mph? The limit usually means the max you can go, but surely you can go slower to drive safely.

The section of road here is much, MUCH narrower than the typical lane in a typical one-way city street with parking along both curbs. A metrobus has about 6” of clearance from the tires to the curb on each side.

Why don’t you just go there and look at it for yourself? I did. Don’t take my word for it, go see it with your own eyes.

so remove the sidewalks? there’s not actually a protected bike lane on that block.

Protected bike lanes would definitely make pedestrians on the sidewalk safer as it would add a barrier between them too.

I have Dutch family and really wish we had their biking infrastructure here in the US. It's so much safer and easier to get around.
