There’s clearly something at fault with the road design here, because there shouldn’t be a crash every day in the same spot. Something is definitely wrong with this part of roadway.

So what? There is nothing wrong with the roadway here. Actually what we need is more road design that punishes drivers for dangerous driving. Instead we remove infrastructure that protects peds and cyclists because dumba55 drivers mess their vehicles up. Some people like dangerous drivers should learn the hard way.

There is definitely an issue with the road here, specifically with the width between the curbs. It’s obviously too narrow if multiple cars are hitting the curbs each day in that one particular spot, and nowhere else.

You sound pretty stupid TBH, so I’m not sure it even does any good trying to explain things like this to you because you’re likely incapable of understanding it until YOU crash your car into the curb. So that’s what I suggest you do - go drive through it yourself at the posted 20mph speed limit, until you hit the curb, too.

Oh wait - you probably don’t have a license or a car, do you? Yeah, I forgot about that part. Dang.

Does every car going through that spot hit the curb? Or do some drivers manage to navigate it safely? Are you required to go 20 mph? The limit usually means the max you can go, but surely you can go slower to drive safely.

The section of road here is much, MUCH narrower than the typical lane in a typical one-way city street with parking along both curbs. A metrobus has about 6” of clearance from the tires to the curb on each side.

Why don’t you just go there and look at it for yourself? I did. Don’t take my word for it, go see it with your own eyes.

I don’t need to. If everyone was hitting pedestrians or curbs I’d be like dang I really need to see this road. But since that’s probably not happening, it seems like most people are able to safely navigate *gasp* a narrow road. Nothing interesting about that. Slow down.

lol ok. How about we just close off C st to through traffic there if drivers cannot drive safely on it?

How fast was the red car going? I didn’t see a speed. But you’re missing the point of speed limits. The speed limit is not the required speed or the minimum speed or even the speed at which the road is always safe. You adjust your speed according to road conditions. Perhaps what you need to be advocating for is a reduced speed there so cars are forced to slow?

I actually read that it wasn’t stolen. But it takes a surprisingly long time to get any information out of MPD about traffic deaths unless the family is actively pressuring for it and knows how to do so.

It is so incredibly offensive that MPD is taking its sweet time finding this murderer. If the car isn't stolen, they know who this guy is and where he lives, but it will be six days tomorrow since the crash and yet no one has been arrested. How hard it is to find this guy? I don't expect the entire force to be put on a manhunt for this guy but it's pretty transparent that MPD isn't even trying. F MPD. Something more money can fix, right Mafioso Muriel?

All I can say is that this is SOP for fatal car accidents. There is only any attention if the family knows how to exert pressure.

I can believe the road geomtery there is more dangerous but it wasn’t caused by bike lanes, given that there *is non protected lane* on that block. But the “neighbor” who posted this lie about bikelanes would object just the same to the kinds of changes needed to address the road geometry.

If people who live with the intersection every day are telling you there's a big problem here, maybe we should listen?

DDOT does some pretty crazy things in the name of safety, things that indisputably make streets less safe.

Not the first time. People who live in Adams Morgan say the bike lanes there have also made the roads less safe

It seems pretty clear that the intentional road narrowing - which is DDOT's go to move - caused this. But rather than reflect upon how badly they've screwed things up the hyperventilating safety patrol is trying to crisis management this.

You are stone cold crazy.

There have been 52 fatal road accidents as of December 27, already matching the 2023 record total. Were the other 51 people also killed as a result of “intentional road narrowing”?

Odds are that you are the very same poster who tries to claim that traffic fatalities are so rare we shouldn’t worry about them.

I honestly do not care if people damage their cars because they can’t slow down enough to navigate a curb extension. I also have absolutely no doubt that road fatalities in DC would be much higher without this infrastructure.

There's a whole slew of reasons for traffic deaths in DC. Typically about one third are blamed on speeding. But there's a whole bunch of other reasons too. Drunk and stoned drivers are usually a large number but for some reason no one seems to care about that. There's a surprising number blamed on pedestrians. In 2022, there were 12 deaths blamed on "pedestrian error" which was more than the nine blamed on speeding.

If you really can’t see that the vehicle is traveling far too fast then you’re an imbecile.

Hopefully the driver has learned his/her lesson and will slow down before they also kill somebody.

Do tell!

Here's the number of deaths each year in DC caused by speeding drivers (per the police). Please point out when the many, many, many traffic calming measures the city has implemented started reducing traffic deaths.
