| Neighbors in the NE neighborhood where the man was killed by a hit and run driver on Christmas Eve said the the streets where he was killed became increasingly dangerous after the city installed a bike lane that created a difficult-to-navigate turn. |
| Huh? It’s not difficult to make a turn. |
| I hate the bike lanes, but they don’t excuse an hit and run. |
|
the “neighbors” saying this are completely deranged weirdos - I know this specifically.
Dude was speeding and over corrected on the turn. Also likely under the influence. The bike lanes did not create that intersection. |
and BTW - how do you think those “neighbors” would react to a real solution for that intersection, like making C st dead end at 16th so Westbound traffic can only take N Carolina? they would lose their ever-loving minds and rant that it was a DDOT conspiracy to kill kittens. |
|
It's the car driver's fault.
The road markings need to be improved. Bike lanes are here to stay. |
unfortunately I don’t think any road markings would stop a driver likely drunk driving on Christmas Eve at a high rate of speed through a residential neighborhood. Maybe speed humps on C St but I don’t think the section of C St before 16th can get speed humps because it is an arterial. |
| Can someone link to a story about this or provide more context? This is the first I'm hearing of it and I obviously don't have all the info. |
https://www.hillrag.com/2024/12/26/hit-and-run-driver-kills-pedestrian-in-christmas-eve-tragedy/ The additional context is that there is a group of intense and personality disordered NIMBYs in this area that take personal offense at pretty much anything the city does that they feel they did not personally agree too. So I have no doubt they will show up here claiming that the bike lanes killed this guy and not the speeding, drunk driver failing to navigate the turn. |
| Since the driver fled on foot, was it a stolen vehicle? |
|
The vehicle "careened into the sidewalk."
How could bike lanes caused that, or how could lack of bike lanes prevent it? Obviously the driver was going to fast and lost control of the car. No bike lane, even the worst signed or planned one, has ever cause me to drive headlong into a sidewalk. Come on. Shame on those of you who want to use this man's death for this petty argument over bike lanes. |
I actually read that it wasn’t stolen. But it takes a surprisingly long time to get any information out of MPD about traffic deaths unless the family is actively pressuring for it and knows how to do so. |
| That section of c street should be given corduroy or some other bumpy surface |
it would have to be the section right before the turn and into the turn. |
| This is an utterly insane, illogical take on this hit and run. How about blame the criminal driver for once?? |
