Bernie Torches Democratic Party

Anonymous
Yeah no. They voted for Biden because he was a traditional white guy.

1. Buttigieg is one of the most thoughtful Democrats on union issues. Despite enormous pressure to support Medicare for all he pushed for a hybrid Medicare as an option to all which would preserve union health cares plans. Unionized workers do not want single payer AKA Bernie’s top passion because it throws away the benefits they have negotiated over the years. Buttigieg is from the Midwest. So why would working class people see him as a coastal elite? He’s gay. Homophobia is ginormous among working class folks.

2. Newsom has an impeccable record on pushing for workers rights. He’s the first out of the gate to push for higher pay, better benefits and safer working conditions and he’s been one of the most effective politicians at getting this done quickly. So why would working class folks not vote for him? He’s not gay but he looks gay. He’s too pretty for a man. He’s not crass. He uses too many words to explain things. He could be a model for what someone in the Midwest thinks a California guy looks like.

3.How about Latino men? It’s one of the most unapologetically machismo, woman hating , homophobic demographics out there. If a Latino woman or gay man was on the ticket, supporting every policy they want, they would come out in droves to vote against them.

There are some interesting comments in this thread. Some thoughts:

- "His ideas didn't go anywhere" - Good ideas sometimes need the right moment and Bernie has a few good ones that people want.
- Healthcare - We will eventually get to basic healthcare for all, if the pharma/insurance/medical device industry monster can be slain. Every other developed country has done it and it would be amazing for the working class, poor, and everyone really. It is a massive burden on families and the #1 reason for personal bankruptcy. We need better/more HC for about half the cost. It is completely achievable and it is time.
- Bernie truly wants to remove $$ out of politics and he keeps lobbyists mostly at arms length. Voters need to align with his (and others') vision and push of legislative curtailment of lobbying power. We need this!!
- He knows that most establishment politicians are corporate shills. He is truly an ally of the people.

There is a reason why he almost co-opted the entire Democrat party in 2016. His ideas resonate.

Democrats aren't perfect as a party but they have been on the side of unions, increasing healthcare availability and affordability, jobs and wages for the middle class, and fixing the broken things in our country like infrastructure or social security that is going bankrupt, etc.

The party of fiscal responsibility keeps running the deficit up and then wants to talk about cuts once a different president is in office. The party of family values keep cutting education dollars, doesn't fund healthcare but insurance companies, and wants to deny climate change after two major hurricanes within two weeks, floods, and repeated years of major wildfires.

It’s the culture wars.

The GOP was more in line with the general population. Dems were going on about trans this, trans that; masks; equity; defund police, blah blah.

Wrong. Gun control cost dems. Law abiding citizens just want to be left alone.

Bernie has had some good points but accomplished nothing good for the past 50 years.

And Kamala Harris just lost by a landslide to a sundowning convicted felon and rapist who was bringing stand up comics on stage to make racist jokes against Puerto Ricans and Blacks. But sure, Bernie’s wrong and the Dems should just continue with business as usual. Whitmer/Mayor Pete 2028!!!!

Moore/Harris 2028!!!!

Or Moore/James or Moore/AOC 2028.

…”Latino men…woman hating…”

If you knew any Latino men other than stereotypes, you would know that many are devout Catholics with strong love for their family. They are some of the hardest working people in America.

I don’t disagree with your last sentence.

I agree that Bernie’s ideas resonate but they will never go anywhere due to Citizens United and social media. The “people” will always be vulnerable to whatever social media algorithms and disinformation is fed to them. It’s safe to say that big tech, hostile foreign nations and the GOP who fuel these methods are never looking out for the working people. Bernie himself was amplified by the troll farms in 2016 despite him disavowing them and never seeking it. He was used as a spoiler to hurt Clinton. Had he gotten the nomination, the troll farms would have been directed against him.

Really surprised Jeff has not deleted this obviously stupid and racist propaganda

It is not racist if the whites are not republicans.

Yes, and they are not even the best Mexico could send.

How? Did you listen to Harris' campaign speeches? I thought it was pretty focused on improving the working/middle class issues. What do you think she should have said more?

You're absolutely right that she did address the middle class/working class; however, she didn't really offer an comprehensive, coordinated policy. Specifically, she never talked about the economy holistically--it was a bunch of sound bytes for specific interest groups. The problem is that Democrats are beholden to rich funders, so they are never able to articulate an economic policy that makes sense for middle class and working class families, because those policies work against the rich.

I agree that both parties are beholden to the rich donors. We need to get the big money out of politics.

I'm sure this is true, but they still won't vote female or gay.
