There are some interesting comments in this thread. Some thoughts: - "His ideas didn't go anywhere" - Good ideas sometimes need the right moment and Bernie has a few good ones that people want. - Healthcare - We will eventually get to basic healthcare for all, if the pharma/insurance/medical device industry monster can be slain. Every other developed country has done it and it would be amazing for the working class, poor, and everyone really. It is a massive burden on families and the #1 reason for personal bankruptcy. We need better/more HC for about half the cost. It is completely achievable and it is time. - Bernie truly wants to remove $$ out of politics and he keeps lobbyists mostly at arms length. Voters need to align with his (and others') vision and push of legislative curtailment of lobbying power. We need this!! - He knows that most establishment politicians are corporate shills. He is truly an ally of the people. There is a reason why he almost co-opted the entire Democrat party in 2016. His ideas resonate.
I agree that Bernie’s ideas resonate but they will never go anywhere due to Citizens United and social media. The “people” will always be vulnerable to whatever social media algorithms and disinformation is fed to them. It’s safe to say that big tech, hostile foreign nations and the GOP who fuel these methods are never looking out for the working people. Bernie himself was amplified by the troll farms in 2016 despite him disavowing them and never seeking it. He was used as a spoiler to hurt Clinton. Had he gotten the nomination, the troll farms would have been directed against him.
